Of course when you mess up Windows you can always reinstall. Is there really no way to fix a "bricked" thunderbolt?

I believe once a phone is bricked it's gone forever however bricking a phone is not easy to do. Many times user are having issues their phone isn't really bricked and they are able to flash a fix. I'm one my third Android phone and have rooted and played around a ton without having any issues that I couldn't resolve with the help of other members here. If you do brick your phone Verizon or your insurance should cover it for you if you play dumb.

Thanks...I'm considering rooting and read the adb rooting method but looks like it would be ez to mess up a step and get in trouble. Maybe i'll try rooting my old Droid 1 first just for the practice.

You could also try the auto root method found here which I have done a few times now without any issues. Remember after rooting you should make a backup in recovery right after which will help you if you have any issues.

If you use the adb rooting method just copy from the procedure and paste into your CMD window (Right click and select paste)... and reading the procedure through first is always a good idea, and you've already done that.

Most "bricks" that are talked about are what we call soft-bricks - like a boot loop, or your phone will turn on but go to a bootloader screen warning, or something like that. These are usually fixable, assuming that you can get back to hboot or recovery mode.

A real brick (or hard brick) means that you're phone has suffered some form of hardware failure or the firmware has been damaged, and it is now a paper weight. This cannot be fixed.

But you can't do that to the phone by merely changing software can you?
