Phone modes: Is there a way to edit individual notification sounds?

Modes use the Do Not Disturb function as 1 of the options you can add. But it's not always useful. I need to set specific sounds separately.

When I use my Sleep mode, I want to mute phone calls so they just vibrate, & I want to totally mute notifications. BUT, I want to hear alarms so I wake up when I'm supposed to!
When I use my Theater mode, I want to mute everything. I can't have alarms (for classes or pills) going off during a movie.
The way it is now, as far as I know, I can only set the function DND. Then I have to use that function for my various modes. The modes don't have the option to set app notifications, alarms, phone ringing, etc separately.

Is there a workaround? Any suggestions? Thanks.

My do not disturb setting allows through alarms, and message and call notifications from certain contacts. I could have also set it to allow notifications for certain apps. I also have a deeper more serious do not disturb like mode that doesn't allow anything, perhaps much like you use theatre mode. However, I could have set that to allow certain apps or certain contacts and alarms. Within the functionality of modes, I think there's a fair bit of flexibility to achieve what you're probably looking for, but you'll have to really explore the possibilities. You may even have to make use of a routine as a helper to a mode. For example, I had to create a supplemental routine that triggers whenever my bedside mode first activates, because one of the OS or UI updates removed the ability to dim the screen the way I had previously set within that mode. You may need to get really creative, structured and logical with how you set up for modes and routines.

The other things I'll mention is I abandoned use of the built-in sleep mode (and basically abandoned use of any built-in modes) and I only use custom modes I've created (plus also the separate configurable do not disturb settings), because for me I found the built-in sleep mode was doing some things that I couldn't have control over. And, when setting do not disturb within a mode, I found that it almost seems to work like a temporary override of some aspects of whatever you had otherwise set for do not disturb in settings. So, there is opportunity for it to become temporarily confusing and then appear as if something isn't functioning as you have set.
