Is Canadian owner of a Sony Z3v is an orphan for update?

Every time I ask to check for update, I receive a message saying that I'm not currently connected to Verizon. Sure I've bought the phone used to use it on my own canadian carrier.
Is it another way to have update for my phone? Or I'm I an orphan?
