Is the Droid Turbo 2 available unlocked? If so, does the unlocked version have less pre-installed apps?

The Droid turbo 2 is factory sim unlocked.

If you want one compatible with other carriers lte networks then you will have to get the x force which would have less pre installed apps

The X Force won't be sold in the US, will it?

Most likely not.

I know people have reported being able to use their Droid Maxx's on other services like StraightTalk. Might do some searching for threads to see what it took, it'll likely be similar for the Turbo2.

I used my droid turbo on T-Mobile until just recently and I had no issues.

Are you planning to get the T2 for T-Mobile? I been holding off until it has been tested to work properly.

If the Moto X Force came to the states, it would match up pretty well against the S6 Active.

I planning on staying with Verizon, I'm just tried having such many apps on my phone that I don't use and are continually being updated. I thought getting an unlocked phone would let me have fewer pre-installed apps.

I'm not up on all of the unlocked terminology. What does "factory sim unlocked" mean with regard to what I can do with the phone--I do plan on using the Verizon network. I'm hoping that I can eliminate some of the apps that are normally loaded that I never use.

SIM locking (which AT&T I believe does on all of their phones that they sell you) means that when you take the SIM card out and put in a SIM from any other carrier, the phone will not connect to the carrier and will instead prompt you for an unlock code. Once you enter an unlock code, that means that any other SIM can be placed in the phone.

This is great if you travel internationally, as Verizon has native signal in only the US and will have you roaming at a high cost in most foreign countries (although they do have international plans which are a little less costly.)

All Verizon LTE phones are no SIM unlocked - global phone use is one of their selling points vs. AT&T, though the truth is that AT&T will provide an unlock code if you are an active customer in good standing for a number of months (I believe it is 6 months), though that's a bit of a pain if you travel and forget to unlock before you leave.

The Droid brand phones, while unlocked, are exclusive to Verizon, so they determine the "bloatware" that is installed on them.

Manufacturers now sell phones that are unlocked for all carriers, and, starting just a month or so ago, Verizon has begun allowing you to activate phones that are unlocked on their network. So, in this case, Motorola can sell an unlocked Moto X Pure that has no bloatware, that is not SIM locked, and can be activated on AT&T (in this case, it will be unlocked), T-Mobile, and Verizon, as well as a lot of prepaid carriers. Because these phones are not sold by the carrier, they have only the bloatware that the manufacturer (Motorola) decides to put on them, if any.

Any Droid brand phone that you buy will have the same bloatware on it, whether it's bought from Verizon or Motorola. I believe that I read somewhere that all of the non-Verizon apps on the phone (games, etc.) can be uninstalled (I don't know if that is true, as I don't have a Turbo 2), and, even if they cannot be uninstalled, you can disable them in settings / apps, so you will not see them in the app drawer and they will not receive Play Store update.

You seem to be pretty knowledgeable about this subject so I wanted to ask you. I bought a Verizon Factory Unlocked Turbo 2 off EBay new and I want to set it up with a carrier but Verizon and At&t are telling me that I would have to set it up as a Pre Pay phone, and their sim cards are not compatible with the turbo 2. So I was thinking of setting it up with Straight Talk, but I can't seem to find out if it will work with them either. Does this sound right to you. I would think that I could set it up with anyone.

Verizon sim cards are definitely compatible with the Droid Turbo 2 - it is a Verizon exclusive phone. I have no personal experience with using a Verizon phone on att or straight talk, but I know that it's been done.

Whoever at Verizon who told you that it couldn't be activated is mistaken.

Yeah, I switch Verizon sims between Verizon phones all the time at work.

Now, if you don't already have a Verizon sim to use, that's different. If you're wanting to activate it on a new line of service, I would think they would give you one. If you're wanting to use it on an existing line, then you'll have to use the sim out of the phone that's already on that line.

It is unlocked. Took it to the UK and Ireland and put three.co.uk 's card in and it worked great.

There are some network settings that must be changed. Best to take it to a store who does this all the time, they'll know. Or you can Google it and try to mess up your own phone! :)

I have T-Mobile and I bought the Droid Turbo 2 from somebody put my SIM card in and I have had no issues whatsoever except all the Verizon apps and the message popping up saying SIM card not from Verizon. I'm trying to figure that out right now
