I have tried multiple times to try to root my Evo but no luck. Its running 2.2, baseband 2.15 (idk if that matters) and software 3.29.651.5. Is it rootable or am i just trying to do the impossible? Thanks in advance.

What are you trying to root it with? Technically the only way to root 2.2 is to use unrEVOked which I don't recommend. The best way to do it is to use the sticky here in the hacks section. Basically what you have to do is revert back to 2.1, root the 2.1, then flash a 2.2 ROM of your choice.

thx for pointing him in the right direction Jerzy

What's wrong with rooting with unrevoked? I rooted my evo with it.

There's the question of what does it actually do, I think at this point we'd know if it's malicious and I'd def say it's not, it's just that the methods are all closed source. Android is all free and open source and happy so people kind of like to go along with that.

At the end of the day I don't think it matters all that much, that being said, I love to root with adb, it gets you in to a bit and used to some things so you have more of a clue if you want to start customizing things or have a problem you really want to get in to the thick of things with to trouble shoot.

Yea what he said... Closed and Not Happy...

We all like Open and Happy

It may. Another reason I'm not a fan of unrEVOked is the fact that too many people have issues after using unrEVOked. And a lot of times there's no way to help simply because since nobody knows what unrEVOked does in the background it's hard to pin point what may have gone wrong..

Btw hooray for my 1800th post! woot!

Too bad I'm a her, not a him. Read the username. And I have tried using those posts and have had no luck, as I mention in the first post. Which is why I was asking in the first place.

Thanks Jerzyiroc. I will try it after work.

unrEVOked is awesome...read the sig

:D trolling hard...

my new Evo i got after insurance came with 2.2 on it...and i now have it rooted and running VaelPak...it's not an easy process but well worth it...just read the site and follow directions...people here help...they don't do the work for others...and with how many times the topic has been covered, it shouldn't have to keep being discussed over and over again
