Looking for a new tablet and this is probably the one i want most. I have a Note 3 which is absolutely awesome. Is the experience on the 10.1 2014 edition the same good experience that i have on my note 3? or is it not as good?

I also have a note 3 and the experience on the 10.1 is twice as fun it is a great tablet pay a few extra bucks and get the 32gb

I have both. The tablet is basically just a bigger screen, which should be what your looking for. Same experience, but for times when you're not forced to use a device you can fit in your pants

So worth it! I have the note 3 as well and the two work very well together. Love how the s notes sync seamlessly from phone to tablet and back. The screen on the tablet is breathtaking. HD movies are stunning on this screen.

Going to get one later today as they're currently on sale with ?60 off online, can't wait it looks so good!

It is an amazing device. Install Nova launcher to take care of the lag people report, which is likely due to touch whiz. Take some time to get to know it and get it set up

I really only have one issue with it -- the battery. Not just because it doesn't last that long (around 7 hours screen time at 25% brightness), but because it takes so long to charge. And that's with the packed in charger -- full charge from 0 takes 5-6 hours. It takes even longer if I use my S4 charger. My 2 year old Transformer Prime has about the same screen time (due to lost capacity over time) but takes half the time to full charge. In a couple of years, it's going to get closer to 5 hours. If battery life is a high priority issue for you, this is not the tablet to get.

I'm just getting it mainly to take notes on books that we're studying at school, so I'm just hoping it will last a School day (6 Hours) and when i get home i'll just use it whilst it's charging.

kinda hard to use while charging. that's one of my main complaints. the charge port is on the bottom if you use in landscape mode. you can turn it upside down, but if you have it in a case, that's another issue. if you use in portrait, the port is right on the middle of the side and is in the way of where you would hold it

I'm actually toying with the idea of grabbing one of these today. I see that TWRP is available for it. Anyone have any experience with TWRP and/or root on this device? Are ODIN images easy to acquire? Sorry for the n00b questions....I'm not too familiar with non-GPE Samsung devices yet. I'm just curious how easy it is to mod on this device and how easy it is to restore if I break something.

Yea I read about root. I'm going to wait a bit myself to make sure the hardware is OK before voiding the warranty. I don't see a lot of development for our tablet. Would be nice to get an AOSP build for it. At least with root and twrp it should be possible to create a bloat free rom. TW needs to die. Lol. I've got the GEL on here now and that helps. I will say compared to my Xoom this thing flies! Really loving it so far.

TouchWiz and Google Experience Launcher. TouchWiz == bad. Google Experience Launcher == much better and lighter on resources.

One thing sorely missing from this tablet, and most Samsung devices I've seen so far, is fastboot mode. On my S4 GPE I can root it without using ODIN or overwriting recovery simply by using fastboot mode to boot a custom recovery in memory and sideloading root. Not possible on this device which is a shame. Once I get my bearings on this tablet I'll see what can be done with it. I at least want an ODIN restore image for it. Yea, it'll trip Knox to flash it since system won't be signed, but, I'd rather have an image for restoring the device than not. I'll need to find a link to the latest OTA zip file to do that.

ahhh ok thanks. I use Apex Launcher, it keeps all the cool stuff that comes with touchwiz, but runs a bit more efficiently. I'll have to check out that GEL, is that in the Play Store, does it do or have anything much different/better than other alternative launchers?

and ya I really would love some of the extended functionality of having it rooted, but I really dont want to mess with it, and void the warranty. This device was too pricey to chance that. I'll keep reading XDA to see if someone figures out a bypass to the Knox tripping...

How to Install and Use the Google Experience Launcher on Any Android Device

It's a pretty basic launcher, but, as I said, it's very lightweight. I own Apex and Nova, as well, but they're not as light.

The Knox tripping is frustrating for sure. If after a few weeks (or when I get impatient) I don't have any physical problems with the tablet, I'll go ahead and void the warranty and root it. The tablet is pretty useless to me without being rooted and custom recovery.

Try a different cable, just in case. I use the same charger with 2 different USB cables, one charges much slower than the other.
