Is it ATT 4g or not?

Not LTE, but what ATT calls 4G like what my One X is on since we don't have LTE at all. This is a thing I just haven't been able to confirm through searching. One place says yes, another no, another HSDPA which is 3g regular and another says HSPA+ which is what ATT calls 4g, even if incorrect.

So which is it? I have a One X and am not happy with it. Trying to see if the SII or Skyrocket is a good replacement.

I'll never call it 4G. The T-Mobile 42Mb Hspa+ rates as 4G though. How At&t can claim something that averages (for me at least) below 6Mbs as 4G is just laughable.

Verizon is even worse to me, there 3G is just decent 2G.

I'll stick with the first specs which has LTE at 100Mbs.

The carriers rule though and can call it what they want. I don't think Canada has gotten the message yet they still call 3G ....3G. lol Just shows how classy they are. This marketing stuff is just annoying.

But is the galaxy SII a 4G connection? Like my original Atrix is, not LTE. If it is, then it is in the lead for me between it and the skyrocket. If it isn't, then the skyrocket is the only option. I can't count on our local ATT sales reps :/ they told me it was 3G and the skyrocket is 4G and thats why I should get the skyrocket...

I have a skyrocket believe me STICK with the one x. Don't let data connection make you change yo the original s2 which only runes on hspa+. My skyrocket regularly pulls 25 mbs down on lte while on regular 4g it gets about 8 MBA down it all depends where you live. But please keep the one x if you really want a skyrocket I will gladly do a trade ;)

Yes to answer your question the S2 is Hspa+ or faux 4G according to the carriers. The Skyrocket has what they call LTE radio(it does Hspa+ and Hspa as well) hence the Skyrocket is 4G/LTE.

At&t reps are dummies.

To clear things up the original s2 is just 4g (hspa+) while the skyrocket can pull 4g and 4g lte which is just a faster form. If your trying to decide between the original s2 and the skyrocket it really depends on what you want. The s2 has a 1.2 dual core exynos processor (made by Samsung) with a 4.3 super amoled plus screen. It now is upgradeable to android 4.0 ics. It is slightily more rectangular than the skyrocket. The skyrocket runs a 1.5 dual core qualcomm s3 processor. It would have been an exynos processor but the chipset does not yet allow lte. It is also super smiled plus on a slightly larger 4.5 screen. Its edges are a little bit more curved. Both phones have 2.0 megapixel front facing cameras and 8.0 megapixel rear shooters. Is normal day to day use the original s2 will be slightly faster in normal tasks due to its chipset. Although lte is a great addition for Tue skyrocket. I had the same filename in deciding which phone to get and I chose the skyrocket due to living in a area filled with lte. I don't mind the larger screen I actually like it. Not having ics is a bummer but I should be getting it any day now. But if you seriously have the one x now I have no idea why your thinking of getting rid of it for the skyrocket. It has both 4g and lte a extremely fast processor a newer version of HTC sense AND android 4.0. Its a flagship phone so I can almost guarantee you will get 4.1 jelly bean in the near future. I'm still stuck on an OS version 2 years behind. The one x also has a 720p true HD screen which both the skyrocket and s2 don't have. Not to mention beats audio. Keep the one x you'll regret it if you get rid of it......

Thanks!!!

I hate how big my One X is, so I'm trying to find something good by my standards that is smaller. My brother has the skyrocket and held in the hand it is noticeably smaller when trying to type landscape. On my One X I can't even reach certain keys in landscape because I am a girl and have girl hands. Although by the specs it isn't a big difference, in the hand I feel it.
So with the original S2 being even smaller than the Skyrocket, I was thinking that might just be my phone.

For me really great quality photos on front and back camera are a big thing, then good connectivity. I have issues with wifi and bluetooth on my One X that one is possibly a hardware defect and the other is "in the process of being fixed with an update"
I am ending the 30 day return period and am really struggling to find something I love from ATT's current offerings. Right now they suck for smart phones! Its either go big or go home (or go back to the atrix...)

So now that I know the original S2 is running on the same network I have my One X on, it becomes a contender again.

What I was is great camera, reliable connectivity, and ease of day to day tasks. I don't watch videos or surf the web much, don't play any games or buy apps. If it isn't free I don't download it. I mostly get on facebook and IM/text. Really I don't even need a smart phone, but I love the android platform, love it! And I love the ability to root and remove all the crap, but I never do anything more than a little cleaning up. I like a crisp clean phone that does a few things really well, as opposed to a lot of things pretty decently.

Based on what you said I would recommend the galaxy sii yes it is 4G hspa+ not LTE.

Sent from my Samsung Skyrocket waiting on ics update :-(

Don't worry. I just got ics on my GS2 and its underwhelming. Nexus is the way to go.

I ended up with the skyrocket, they were unable to secure me an S2. With it being a company phone I am limited to what corporate stores have in stock.

I wasn't impressed with ICS, actually there were enough things about it that it annoyed me and I downloaded a few things to make it more like gingerbread.

So we will see how I like the skyrocket vs the one x. It definitely feels smaller in the hand, even though by the specs it isn't much smaller. Hoping this one sticks!
