Is it Bricked?

Is it possible that your card slipped out during the process? Does it "click" when you reinsert it? How about if you physically hold it in tight while trying to reboot from the card? My slot failed and I had to do that to restore it to stock before returning under warranty.

Mine bricked and I've had it less than 48 hours. I rooted it and it was working GREAT!!! Then it began getting "lines" on the screen, vertically in portrait mode. Then when I tried to reboot it after turning it off, just more lines and it would stick in the boot loop. Now I can't even get it to boot in recovery (or in anything else) to enable me to restore it to stock. It will not boot with the card or without the card in it.

Looks like I am stuck with a brick. Sounds like a hardware issue, but since it has been rooted, there is nothing I can do about it.

Anymore suggestions?

If it will not boot who is to say if it has been rooted or not?

I've noticed this afternoon, if I set it aside for a fee minutes, 15 or more, it will start to boot on the little cm7 logo and stop there. Within a minute, the streaks begin on the screen. So with even that, they might see it has been rooted.

Just my luck.

Have you tried to make a bootable clockwork card?

I've tried. But it still just hangs, then come the streaks on the screen.

I even tried to do EXACTLY what I did to root it with CM7 in the first place.

I'm confused. (understatement)

It seems to be a hardware problem but unless it has to do with your SD slot you should still be able to boot. What is your SD card brand and what are you using to burn the image?

I think it is a hardware problem also. But since it has been rooted, I don't think B&N will deal with it. One problem is, there is no pattern. A couple of hours ago, it would display the NC7 logo then freeze with the streaks on the screen. now, it is not respondin to anything.

I am using my card in an adapter to burn with my laptop (Thinkpad) I have tried various things over the past few hours. Currently, nothing. Earlier it would start to boot CM7 and freeze up with streaks on the screen.

Currently, nothing. It will not respond at boot up to anything!

If it is still like this in the morning, I may just call the B&N number and fake ignorance. Of course, not much faking there. If it won't boot, it won't boot.

Can you boot if it is plugged in to the charger?

It has no pattern. It was plugged in all night. I tried booting it this morning and it started with the cyanogen logo and froze there, never going on. So I pressed the power button to turn it off. Left it off a couple of minutes than pressed the power button to turn it back on.

Nothing.

It doesn't really change if it is plugged in or not. The plug shows green, so it has plenty of power.

If there were a pattern, then I could have something to go on. I have tried reflashing the sd card for a couple of variations but it will not completely boot with any of them.

I'm stumped. I wish there were a "Nook" repair shop. i can't send it back since it might boot to the Cyanogen logo when booted, or it might not. No pattern!!

Yes, I tried to do it from these instructions:
How To: Restore the Nook Color to Stock | TheUnlockr

It gets to the "Loading" screen, then goes blank. Tried to boot it several times, plugged in and not plugged in. When it is plugged in, the "N" on the plug shows green.

Blank screen is all I get now.

EDIT: Koop, I had tried your guide also. I bookmarked it for next time. I am using a cheapie Microcenter 4gb card. But I think this might be a hardware issue. I will probably call BN and see if I can return it or something. It was GREAT for the one day it worked. Can't stress out or spend any more time on it if it is really a hardware problem. Know what i mean? life is too short.

EDIT AGAIN:

Tried out THIS plan for restoring it to original. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=931720

Got to the "format system" part and it did fine. I get this far but when I "format data" I get "error formatting .../data" message. I rebooted and started over but I couldn't get beyond that. So I skipped "format data" and installed the zip file. It seemed to install it fine.

Turned it off and rebooted. It came on just like new, but froze on the gray N screen. ???

So I held the power switch and turned it off. Tried to boot it a few times and got nothing twice, then booted to the "Touch the future of reading" screen, but with lots of lines/streaks from top to bottom. Such a PITA. I may call and try to return it.

FINAL EDIT: I called them, they tried to do a factory reset. Still would not do the reset. Through his accent, the tech said the software was corrupt and he would send me another one. So now, I am not sure it is worth going through this rooting thing again. But for one day, my Nook Color running Android was a great little tablet.

Well from what it sounds like you got it back to stock enough to get a return. If you do decide to root again I hope you have more success.

Yeah, that was the only reason I got it. And for the one day it worked, I loved it. When it asked about syncing to a Google account, I just synced it to my regular Google account. Next thing I know, all of my apps and contacts from my EVO were on it. I didn't think about it but...it was pretty nice. Didn't have to really download much at all since everything I needed was already there.

I was able to reload the restore to factory specs enough that it booted like a factory NC. Your "Noobs Guide" looks pretty good. I don't know what went wrong. So I will probably try it again.

Hope I don't screw up the next one.
