Is it default to ask for alternate password after 5 failed attempts for finger swipe for S5?

I just got an S5. At first, after 5 failed attempts at the finger swipe lock, it would ask for my alternate password. I had to factory reset my phone because of an issue and since then, it does not ask for alternate password after 5 attempts. It immediately takes me to time out for 30 seconds and I cannot try to unlock my phone until the time is up. From what I've read online, it is supposed to be default for alternate password. Am I wrong?

Is there a way to fix this? What is the point of an alternate password when it doesnt even ask for my alternate password?

well, i don't think that it should ask alternate password for pattern lock rather than it ask for alternate password over finger lock or face lock... ! If that's true it sure is a thing which I really don't know about I guess I need to check it over my device.....
