If your using S Voice then yes it sucks but Google Now works perfectly ;)

Mine sucks as well on the Samsung S4, which I have had since the Fall of 2014. One of my colleagues has the same problem with her Samsung S4. I have been using voice to text for years and on various different phones. My last several phones were motorola Androids, and voice to text dictation was much better, but not nearly as good as on my i-pad. I have gone back to my local Verizon store, where the sales people are very helpful, and they changed several settings, but the dictation is no better! The only Apple product I own is an i-pad, and I do not want any more Apple products due to the proprietary nature of Apple, but I am serious thinking about getting an i-phone solely for the dictation. I tried dictating on a friend's i-phone, and it was almost flawless.

It seems to force us; if activating from a headset or automobile interface to the S-5 forces us into Google voice recognition. It about the worst I have seen relative to the latest voice technology; which is generally acceptable after the system gets used to our voices and cadence. If Samsung and Google did not force us to default to their software and use an alternate choice as the primary it would OK. As it now stands; you are correct; it is horrid!

Same exact issue. I just went from S2 to S4 and it was much better on the S2 and that was with Sprint! Verizon S4 for some reason is severely lacking.

I am coming from an iPhone 4s, now on android with republic wireless moto x. IPhone vr failed half the time I used it with huge delays but when it worked it was very good. Better on WiFi with sucks because I usually use vr when I am away from home. On my bike text replies could be frustrating.

Android won't even pause the music when dictating which is a new bug introduced with KitKat I see but never fixed.

Android is very fast and never fails to connect to the server like iPhone but it is also very inaccurate at times. But it sounds like this will vary from phone to phone and version to version. It seems like you will never get bugs fixed on the given device and can only hope it is fixed in the next version of the phone.

I too am having major recognition errors with my GS5! I have used an iPhone 6+, and it is nearly perfect! I still have another couple of days in my 14-day trial period. I am thinking of returning it, but want to stay with android. Anyone have suggestions on how to improve the GS5 speech to text feature? I love the phone. The recognition is the only problem I have. Very disappointing.

I have always been amazed at how great the voice recognition works for search, text messages and taking a note! It recognizes my voice well even with a southern accent!

Not only does the voice recognition suck, it comes up with weird words or even things that appear to be non-words. As an example, one time I used the word "electrician" in a text and it printed out "A electrician" One time and "electric shin" another time. Also sometimes I ask for a period and it prints out the word "period" while other times it prints one. Not to mention when I ask for a comma it prints out "kama." What in the world is a kama? What is the deal? My Galaxy S2 seemed to work much better in this function than my S4 does. By the way, all of you people posting replies with "Mine works fine" or "no problem here," that's just great. Why don't you go away since you do not help the forum by adding this information? Forums are for people to share information, and in some cases help to solve a problem.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. The voice recognition is inconsistent and often absolutely ridiculous. It comes up with words that I could not imagine. No human being speaks more clearly than I.

100% agree as a matter of fact I have the brand-new Galaxy note 7 and this is how bad the voice recognition is I am speaking this message to right now it is absolutely awful and it also makes up completely words that absolutely make no sense and are not in the American dictionary No sense of punctuation it has no sense of capitalization and no Smartt's Lever whatsoeva I should also mention as you probably noticed in this message it skips the 1st one or 2 words in every sentence as well The same that aggravates me with the Galaxy note 7 is the fact that it inserted the ebonix into the dictionary meaning there are not even correctly spelled words as common words in the dictionary like whateva and thinkin. Was even worse but you wouldn't even comprehend what I was trying to say if i didn't correct about 10:00 words in this thought.
*I should mention that I have a thick Boston accent but do try and talk slow and pronounce my R's. It just sucks..

I think the quality of the microphone is a contributing factor.

also My Samsung Galaxy TAB 4 sucks at voice to text in messaging but is almost flawless in Google Search same on my Samsung Galaxy Prime phone

Its September 2019 and the text-to-talk still sucks. I talk slowly, I talk clearly, and yet Android still gets it wrong. I understand that there's dialect that must be considered... However, even if I speak very slowly and very clearly, this feature always messes up. Even while I talked to text this message, I've had to correct it three times. Android team, you can do better than this.
