Is it me or is the Nexus 7 missing a camera flash?

Re: Is it me or is the Nexus7 missing flash?

The galaxy notes have flashes too

I checked last night, my 7 inch Tab 2 does not have a flash. Previous post is likely correct in saying 10" tabs have flash.

Interesting discussion - shows how widely people's views differ on so many related subjects. For me, I take few pictures with my Nexus 7-2013 and don't miss the flash. With my good point-and-shot, long ago with film SLRs, and with my Motorola Razr Maxx HD phone, I avoid flash as much as possible because I usually don't like the result, like red eye and flash reflections bouncing off of everything thing in the picture that will reflect. A lot of underexposure from lack of flash can be corrected with a photo editor - I use Photoshop Elements.

Welcome to Android Central, and good point about the quality of flash pictures on phones and most point & shoots. I hate the ridiculous overexposure that can often occur with most point & shoot cameras.

Nothing a simple auto adjust can't fix. Unless you're a horrible photographer...

With many cameras, it's not that simple. I've had my fair share of point-and-shoots that glaringly overexpose the subject with flash, and have the surroundings in significant darkness. Adjusting the exposure never helps, and it's too much hassle to photoshop every single photo.

Re: Is it me or is the Nexus7 missing flash?

My wife and I took a road trip through South Dakota, Wyoming, & Montana last summer and I was really surprised by the number of people I saw taking pics/video with large tablets - there were quite a few. The oddest thing I saw was a guy taking a video of buffalo using an iPhone held up to an eyepiece on a pair of binoculars he was holding, the oddest aspect being the narration he was also providing.

One of our pets passed away recently and afterwards I came across a video I made of him as a test of the camera on my TF700T tablet. Only time I've ever used it and now I'm glad I tried it out like that. I tried the N7 camera and was found that in anything less than ideal lighting the end result is not too good.

Sparksd: I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your pet. It's very hard losing a family member. It sounds like you found a wonderful gift in that "test" video. Enjoy.

They had to keep the cost of the device down and camera isn't a concentrated feature on tablets because you tend to look like a dork using it to take photos.

Google releases the Nexus tablets at different price ranges, so they can release a tablet without a camera flash to keep the price down and only put the flash on the more expensive models. (It's analogous to LTE, which is only available on the most expensive model so that the other models can be cheaper.) If people want to take a photo with a tablet, that's fine. They bought the tablet, so they can do whatever they want with it.
