Is it possible to buy a phone directly from T-Mobile without requiring a new plan?

Dad's 2 year plan has been over for a long time. With his minutes and text now being unlimited and data plan upgraded from 2GB to 5GB or 7GB he is perfectly fine with the plan. But the HTC One S is to small for him now. We are looking at getting a pre-owned LG G3 but trying to do so online requires to get a new plan. Is it possible to buy a pre-owned phone or any phone at all from T-Mo directly without any other things?

Directly from TMO, probably not. But try Swappa. (Just look for TMO phones. An AT&T phone of the same model may not give you high speed data, because AT&T and TMO use different frequency bands, and only a few of the top-end phones include all of them.)

Well he has service from the sound of it right ? He should be able to buy it full price by going to a T-Mobile store. The online site won't let you.

Thanks guys. Yes he is still using T-Mobile service. More likely we'll get a nicely priced unlocked phone like a OPO/OPT, OTI3, ZF2, etc but good to know we can buy a phone at full price in store.

Most T-Mobile stores carry CPO (Certified Pre-Owned) devices as well, and the G3 is priced at $299.75. You will not have to change your plan if you go this route, just make sure the store has the phone in stock, or that they can order it online for you.

Yes, I have three of them. Swap sims all the time.. Unless I'm not understanding the question
