Is it possible to have more than one phone number assigned to my EVO

I want to have both my work and personal phone numbers on my EVO. Is there a way to do it without using Google Voice or any other 3rd party application? I just want 2 numbers assigned to my EVO.

You have to call Sprint on this one. You may have to get another phone number and have it forwarded to your Evo #.

Get a free Google Voice number and have your personal number forward to it. Then tell google voice to send all calls to your work number. The only drawback could be that you may lose caller ID for your personal number.

just install google voice u have a seperate number where u even can write text and sent picture mail from and ur own voicemail and stuff. google voice is your best bet for having 2 numbers on ur evo.

The OP doesn't want to use google voice. Now the catch is that there might not be a way to do that without google voice. Is it possible for you to have the work number forwarded to your EVO?

Real easy if your company is ok with it, I do it. Contact your telecommunications department and ask if you can call forward. My company allows it through our avaya telephone system so I hit a pre-programmed button on my desk phone and viola, calls come directly to my cell.

This is not a sprint or Android question, It's a question for your telecom department at work.

Here is the situation I have a work phone and a on call phone for emergency services. I want to combine them into one phone but have seperate numbers for work and emergency calls. I was hoping I could have 2 lines so that I would get all my text messages and everything else on my EVO and then not have to carry 2 phones. Call forwarding the phone calls doesn't help with text messaging. I know a while ago they used to let you have to phone numbers assigned to one phone but as technology has expanded I see it less and less. I know about Google Voice but that isn't foolproof and since it is for emergency services I need to make sure there are no hiccups with it.

Now, we know that Android is the OS of 1 cell phone, what is the OS of the other cell phone? :: please say winmo, please say winmo:: There's a free app you can download for winmo phones that sends calls and texts to another phone. It also appends contact info to all texts it sends so you can see who exactly sent you the text without having them stored in your android cell phone I'd have to (literally) dig out my old Sprint treo pro to remember the name of the app but i used it and it worked like a charm.

Have you asked if they can add another number to notify you? I know for some local fire departments back home my friends get a pager and get texts on their cell phones for a call. Or even can they send it to an email address?

I think google voice text messaging is as reliable as text messaging. It's actually all I use.

What you could do is get a google voice number, but not install google voice on your phone and within google voice settings have it fwd the text messages to your existing cell. You can also install google voice but not use it to make calls and leave the voicemail setting as default. The reason I say have it sent to your cell is because it gives google voice two ways to get your phone, through the GV app and through an SMS fwd. (it also sends along contact information). If you have to respond to these messages that would work fine as well, you can just reply through the native app and GV will route it from the GV number, or use the google voice app.

+1 on Google voice. I use it with my EVO along with Voice Plus and it works great. I love having one phone with 2 numbers.
