Is it possible to have two separate plans from two different carriers on the same smartphone?

It is an unlocked phone. There would be two separate sim cards. I would only need to switch the sim cards depending on the plan that I wish to use at that time. Is this scenario possible?

If you can get a dual-SIM phone, I suppose that's how it would work. People have also had success using the Pixel 2 series as a dual-SIM phone, using the E-SIM with Project FI and inserting a regular SIM then using a settings page to switch which is active.
