Android Central Question

I just updated my S7--what a mess. Individual ring tones for my emails=gone. Displaying # of emails not read=gone. Number of text messages unread=gone. Makes a grown man want to cry.....haven't looked at the rest of my phone.....too depressing. Are there any alternatives to resolving these concerns? I'm going to look at resurrecting my BlackBerry. Having individual ring tones for my contacts is important. I hope this is corrected. Is there a way to evaluate what an upgrade consists of prior to just upgrading your phone? Thanks for your response.....Dave Y.

Welcome to Android Central! Are you talking about setting individual notification tones for SMS messages, or for emails? The main thing people complained about way back with Oreo was individual tones for messages: https://forums.androidcentral.com/a...te-notification-tones-oreo-5.html#post6472918

The move away from unread badge count icons to dynamic notification bubbles was across all of Android. But you can easily bring it back if you install a 3rd party launcher like Nova.

To roll back a system update, you'd have to use Odin to install the previous firmware: http://forums.androidcentral.com/am...w-flash-stock-rom-via-odin-new-interface.html. But then, the phone would keep prompting you to update again, so you'd have to disable the system update notifications. Not sure if there's a setting for that in the system settings, or if you'd have to root the phone for that.

I'm not sure they would be able to go back to a older bootloader, I'm working with another person in the forum about this

Oh right, I keep forgetting about that. But would an older phone like the S7 have the new bootloader? I'm not well-versed in this kind of thing.

Is the new bootloader only with Pie? I thought the S7 wasn't getting Pie.
No I believe its stuck on oreo that's all it gets
So for example if Samsung finished support on it 8.1 july security patch , that would be considered newest build and bootloader, so that person might not be able to downgrade to 8.1 june security patch.
