Root a Generic Chinese Tablet running Android 4.2.2.4.4

Is it possible to Root one of these cheap chinese Generic Tablets safely?and if so how?

If the phone is running 4.4.2, and the kernel is dated June 2, 2014 or earlier (Settings/General/About device/Kernel), Towel Root will work, because it works on Linux, so the changes made to Android by the manufacturer don't matter. (4.2.2.4.4? There was a 4.2.2, a 4.4.2 and a 4.4.4, but never a 4.2.2.4.4. That would be something invented by the manufacturer.)

Framaroot usually doesn't work on those Chinese devices because they're not close enough to standard Android. But it won't harm the phone, it'll just report that it can't root it.
