Is It Possible?

In a stock tbolt is it possible to retain vzw voicemail and notifications while adding some free third party visual voicemail app that attempts to translate the message on vzw? I want to retain my vsw voicemail. I don't trust any other app to always work.

I've been discussing that in another thread but does it have visual voicemail as well? Is it free?

You can set it to be a visual voicemail app. It's free but using it as a voicemail service will use some of your minutes at least on Verizon anyway.

Also, GV translates your voicemails into text that you can read but its very hit or miss, at least for me.

I'm not surprised. I've learned voice to text only works with short, common expressions. Still, seems easier to click on mp3 in gmail than call vm and enter password. I wonder if I could eliminate the password in vzw vm. Nothing secret in my voicemail messages.

One can include your password in your programmed VM number. If I recall, adding a "p" (for pause) after the programmed VM number, followed by your password, will eliminate the need to manually enter your password each time you access voicemail.

Also, I use GV. The voice-to-text feature works well enough to get the general idea from most voicemails. Yes it is free (so far).

I'll try that (adding password to 86.)

I'm glad I didn't install google voice yet. Those who did are losing camera function for some reason.

I am using Better YouMail and love it..The app works well for me but may not be for everyone.

You can also put a comma instead of a "P" for the pause.

For example changing your Voicemail number to *86,1234 would give you plenty of time inbetween the initial dial into the voicemail and entering in your password automatically.

With Google Voice you get a text translation and the original message audio. Also you don't have to dial a number or enter a password if you don't want to. Kind of like getting a MMS.

I just powered up my Thunderbolt installed Google Voice and its working fine with camera. but GV does allow you to have verizon forward your calls to the service and you get voice to text with audio recording and its pretty seamless to most.

Added benefit if you can listen to your messages from the PC and save them forever unlike having to go into vzw system every month to preserve them..

It was due to an outdated camera file. Fix floating around on the forums.

There is no real fix for unrooted users. You lose the "fix" every time you restart. I find I restart often as phone seems to slow down with a lot of use. It may only affect folks who have installed one of the gingerbread ruu's but this isn't a good time to try it imo. When the real ota gb comes out if this problem is solved (and I suspect it will be) i'll try gv then. Now that I don't need to dial my password in vzwvm I don't know if i'll bother to switch.

What I was really looking for was an app that would allow me to keep vswvm yet "listen in" and give me a free visual vm of my vswvm. 3 bucks a month for visual vm from vzw is a true rip off. Should be free.

There are many apps that should be free. With all that we spend monthly! I am glad Google voice navigation is free. Love it

sent from my Thunderbolt
