Without dealing with the phone issue, because I only started paying attention in May of this year, I am saving 1000 over the next year with LTE on Sprint. Edit: compared to verizon

Yeah I completely agree that Sprint is way cheaper. If I didn't find Straight Talk, I would be headed to Sprint no question. I just think that even they are overpriced for the coverage that they have (or don't have) in comparison to AT&T or VZW. But even that is completely based on location. I know some people get fantastic Sprint coverage. I just have grown to despise each carrier. Verizon has pushed me too far with the Share Everything Plan and little annoyances like with the branded home button on the Note. They just have zero respect or compassion for their customers.

I do agree with you that Verizon is out of control with just about everything. Straight talk is not the answer to the issue though. The TOS say they can pretty much cut you off if they deem any of your usage excessive. Be it talk, text or web. With Sprint I am only paying 25$ more than I would be with straight talk with no chance of a cut off.

THis is from their TOS:

Straight Talk may discontinue providing Service to you, discontinue your account, discontinue providing connections to particular telephone numbers or types of Services used or called by you, terminate data connections and/or reduce data throughput speeds for customers whose usage, in the sole judgment of Straight Talk: (1) appear likely to generate abnormally high call volumes or Mobile Web Access and data usage and/or abnormally long average call lengths or Mobile Web Access and data usage as compared to the usage of other Straight Talk customers; (2) may be harmful, disruptive, or interfere with the Carrier?s network or Straight Talk or the Carrier?s ability to provide service to other customers; or (3) for any other reason in Straight Talk?s sole discretion. For detailed description of activities that could result in service interruption or termination, see paragraph 7 and the section entitled ?Straight Talk Features: Intended Use? under the Mobile Web Services Section below. By initiating Service and placing or receiving calls, you acknowledge and agree to Straight Talk?s right to terminate your Service under these circumstances.

Straight Talk may modify or cancel any Service or take corrective action at any time without prior notice and for any reason, including but not limited to your violation of this agreement.

Oh and to the poster above, this isnt a fight, just a discussion...at least from my POV. It did get off topic

My younger brother lives in Chicago and loves Sprint. He actually just switched from Verizon and has not had any complaints. I'm actually going to miss having Verizon and Unlimited LTE. I wanted to try out Prepaid for the longest time. What pushed me was losing my Unlimited Data because I added usage controls to my plan (had to block some numbers, long story). But, I couldn't be happier on T-Mobile Prepaid. I personally don't see the need (or want) for carrier fights. Each carrier brings something unique to the market; and it's always nice to have choice.

Back on topic: What is sad is when you get wasted and proceed to spend the next hour or 2 trying to pull an update as a past time. I remember doing that one night when my Droid Pro was due to update to Gingerbread. The girlfriend wasn't too happy when she found out that I canceled romantic comedy night for a phone update :p

I can agree, but only one question for you.

is that girlfriend or ex-girlfriend? My wife would have killed me

Part of my night ritual is to check for Jelly Bean when I go to the bathroom lol?

Back on topic here. Excellent question and easy answer. Yes it is sad but a logical and perfect place to be shocked about receiving a Verizon ota update.
Definitely less embarrassing.

Okay, the girl I work with got her JB update yesterday before coming to work on a Sprint S3. There are a couple of system settings that are cool like Cloud, but that's it. With TW over the top of it, even the icons are the same. No major differences, and "Project Butter" doesn't seem to show itself to be any smoother than my Nova Launcher. She crashed twice, so she's going to do a factory reset and start from scratch on it. I for one will be rooting this weekend so I can decline updates. Newer isn't always better unless it's factory installed...Kinda' like an aftermarket sunroof. Anyway, good luck to all who are waiting with bated breath for this update. My S2 was useless after the ICS update, and my Evo slowed down after the GB update. OTA's also work differently on every phone, just like a rooted ROM works differently even though the phones are identical in theory, and my phone is PERFECT right now.

One of my many reasons to leave Verizon

So go ahead and leave. Choice is great. I would not leave vzw and their superior coverage just because my latest device doesn't have an update for a phone that is already amazing. And an update that we will most likely have by end of year anyhow.

Really is true in wireless- you get what you pay for.

I know my Brother in law uses Straight Talk and he loves it. It's much cheaper, and if they cut me off I still have my Wi-Fi at home. I don't really use my data connection too often outside of my house so it wouldn't be a major deal. And worse case scenario I switch to Simple Mobile without any ETF's.

Very true on your points, I just use too much data at this point to not be on unlimited somewhere

There's nothing wrong with Sprint, or Verizon, or T-Mob, or AT&T. They are merely choices that people choose to use. Because of that, they price it the way they want as there will always be someone to take your place if you leave. If you're on a shared plan with multiple lines, Verizon definitely isn't the company to use. That would be pricey. For a single line with a 2GB plan however, it's cheaper than T-Mob and AT&T, and only $6.00 a month more after my discounts. One poster claims to pay Sprint $90-95.00 a month and is happy with it. I only paid $76.00 a month on Sprint with my employee discount, for unlimited 3G, and unlimited mobile to mobile. Verizon is $82.00 a month with my discount, 2GB, unlimited text, and unlimited calls to mobile or landline. AT&T would have been around $110.00 and T-Mob would have been around $100.00 for a comparable plan. I said COMPARABLE as they all have little nuances. However, back on topic (which nobody has really been on since the topic is "Is it sad?") the answer to me is "no". I couldn't care less. Last post on this thread for me...I'd rather be productive and help solve problems. Enjoy!
