Since the Macbook 2016’s charger is much longer, I was thinking of using this USB-C charger to charge my pre-ordered Galaxy S9 every night. Is it safe? Will it void the warranty?

I do, with S8+ and Note 8. I also use Samsung new 2018 wireless stand and an older flat (lighted) fast charge wireless pad.

The Apple charger is overkill, but seems perfectly safe.

Just look at the Output line on the label. If it puts out 5 Volts, it's safe. It doesn't matter if it puts out 5 Volts at 700mA or 5 Bolts at 30 Amps, it's the voltage rating that matters. If it produces enough current, the phone will draw what it's designed to draw. (Your home is probably rated at around 22,000 Watts or 110 Volts at 200 Amps [or 220 Volts at 100 Amps, depending on where you live], but a 100 Watt light bulb still only draws 100 Watts [~1 Amp at 110 Volts, ~0.5 Amps at 220 Volts.)
