Is it safe to leave NFC activated?

I personally leave mine off, as the Walmart crowds are immense and folks don't seem to mind crowding right up against you while you are trying to read your shopping list.

Think of it this way. Just how often do you need NFC anyway? Maybe once or twice a year?

For me, it has been never so far. I send photos to my family via MMS

My phone has a huge amount of pictures relating to my job. My family could care less about them. I do not want stuff be transferred over to my wife's S5 w/o me knowing about it.

I leave mine on. I use nfc payment through Google Wallet at least 2 or 3 times per week.

I turn mine off after I'm done using it with either my Google Wallet or Softcard. I don't feel comfortable leaving it always on when I don't need it. It's a personal preference.

Thanks. I (semi) often transfer pictures or music with 3 other NFC capable phones. I was getting tired of having to enable it each time but I guess it's safer that way. Don't use Google Wallet.
AZ, don't the phones have to physically touch to start the transfer?
If NFC is off when the screen is off, how can it be a security risk at all?
Or have the the evil ones figured out a way to grab information without touching phones
and with the phone's screen off?

Monica, I don't know. But I suspect you are right.

I turned it off the first day I had the phone and never looked at it again.
