I want to root my galaxy s5 but I want to make sure I don't screw up my phone. I've never rooted a device before. Can someone explain the best way to go about is?
Its 50/50 when it comes to rooting. It may or may not damage anything. However, it will most probably trip knox, and then you could end up with random app crashes or reboots. Unless you have a precise reason for rooting, and are prepared for the possibility of issues or possibly reloading the rom from scratch, then i would advise against. However, if you do decide to tinker with your phone, make sure you have backed everything up first. Other than that, enjoy the new possibilities with a rooted phone. I would check over on xda forums on how to root your device, and read a few of the issues that other people have encountered. Enjoy
The question you need to ask is why ?
Do you need to ?
Will it benifit you ?
In the past most wanted to put custom roms on just to chance the looks
Try a new Launcher first
