Is it safe to say that Verizon won't update the Note 3 in a timely fashion?
(based on how fast Verizon sent out update to the current Verizon Note 2)

Verizon doesn't update any phones within a timely fashion. The reasoning for this is so that they can test the update before releasing it to the public to avoid problems. I'm not sure this is working too well because I always hear about major issues post update. But then again, if we got it quickly, how many more issues would we see?

a somewhat honest Verizon tech support guy once told me that if it takes Google 6 months to write a major update, then it will take Verizon another 7 month after that to test and release it.... :(

Its true Google writes the coding but once that's done all of the phone manufacturers such as Motorola, Samsung, LG, and others have to edit the code with their launcher specifics. In the case of the Note 3 that would be TouchWiz.

Samsung hands the update to Verizon. Verizon doesn't have to test it since they have done that.

What Verizon tests is adding their bloat ware and then seeing how bad it messes things up. With carriers the hold up is how much effort they want to put in to updating the phone and how much bloat ware to add.

Oh also to remove anything they don't like as well. Such as the HTC One for Verizon they removed power save mode. No clue why.

A dead battery isn't capable of using up Verizon's resources. That's why. ;)

Sadly Verizon is very slow in releasing updates, but the OEM has to send an update to the carrier to begin with. Samsung just didn't do that with the GN2 since none of the US carriers had 4.2.2 on it. I guess Samsung decided to wait and push 4.3 since it is tied to their GG initiative and perhaps they felt the carriers wouldn't be inclined to approve 4.2.2 then 4.3 so close together and instead they opted to get 4.3 to the carriers.

As to when we would see 4.4, I suspect late spring to early summer 2014.

The Note2 got the same updates as any carrier... Lol... No Galaxy device on Verizon is anymore out of date than any other... Nor Htc...all carriers take their time not just Verizon
