IS it true No more Android updates for Samsung Galaxy S3?

People have rooted the Sprint OTA 4.3 successfully with CWM, TWRP and Philz.
Strange that the OTAs are that different - I would have thought that the Knox component was the same between all of them, so that if a root exploit/Recovery worked on one it would work on all of them.

Have they actually unlocked the bootloader then? I thought that was required to install an alternate Recovery (or I'm just showing my ignorance).

In fairness, I didn't realize how hard Verizon made it to root.

Sprint doesn't lock the bootloader. The root process, which I documented here: http://forums.androidcentral.com/sp...possible-method-root-4-3-a-2.html#post3316246 , doesn't remove Knox from the bootloader, but does remove all the Knox application files.

Rooting does trip the Knox warranty bit, which can't be reset (at least I've not seen any way to reset it), so Samsung and Sprint will know you rooted even if you later flash a stock ROM, but that's about the only problem. You void your warranty with Samsung, but Sprint doesn't really seem to care, unless you broke the phone because it was rooted (flashing a bad ROM, for example.

There are reasons not to like Sprint, but reasons to like them, too.

I was shocked that the GS3 is actually getting KitKat. One thing to remember joe024, Google usually mandates that new devices are updated for at least 18 months post-release. The GS3 was released on Verizon (the one I have) on July 10, 2012. This phone was released on 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Now, 4 updates later, this phone is still a beast. The phone is still relevant as the sales from last year point out, with over 40 million sold to date. There are still more people with GS3 phones then any other Samsung phone and it is still selling good. That is why we haven't heard any EOL rumors yet. This should get you through until your next phone purchase. As long as my phone stays operational, I have no qualms in saying I will have this phone for a couple more years!
