Ever since the Nexus 7 was released I have been contemplating if I should purchase one or not...

But looking through out the forums I see that many people are having issues and returning them...

Do you think its worth it for me to purchase one?

Any advice is welcome

Personally I've had the 2012 (original) version of the Nexus 7 and so far so good. The Nexus 7 (2013) version, I've seen plenty of happy customers. Naturally whenever things go south you hear and remember more about the " bad or negative " things than you do the good side.

Plus lets not forget the new N7 is running Android 4.3 which is going to have updates which should address most/all software related bugs and problems. Hardware issues, like anything your going to have your bad ones that slip by on the production line.

For the price, you can't complain though.. Your not going to get into too many tablets these days especially one with specs of the new N7 for that price.

Wow...thanks for the speedy reply!

Yeah, I figure with all products I will always hear a lot of negative things.

Would you personally purchase the Nexus 7 (2013) and why?

most issues posted here are GPS and touch problems which was fixed last week with an update.

I love my 2013 model, blows away my 2012 no doubt. As Paul stated, you will always hear about the complaints or issues, but theres thousands of others who are too busy loving their new device to post about it. Any forum will be this way, every issue will be brought to light long before anyone praises how good it is. Just the way things work.

"Worth it" is always up to the customer, not a bunch of people on a forum. Usually whether it would be worth it would depend on how much disposable income you have, and how you would use it. So, how would you use it? Personally, I think it's an awesome tablet, and what few issues there are have been worked out recently, or are being worked on. If a 7" Android tablet makes sense for you, then this is almost indisputably the best option right now.

The original Nexus 7 was a breakthrough product with a very good form factor for a variety of uses. I wanted to wait until the 7" form factor acquired a front camera and a higher resolution screen. The new Nexus 7 did that. I use mine in the cockpit for real-time GPS and aviation mapping as well as for home use. The most serious bugs (GPS, touchscreen) have been addressed by the most recent update. As for all new Android products, there are unanticipated issues that the public has to beta-test. When the Motorola Xoom came out two years ago, Honeycomb was an unmitigated mess. It was fixed up reasonably well after a couple of updates. Same will happen here.

most people that complain about the N7 are outright delusional or exaggerating. techno-hypochondriacs. some simply have buyers remorse because they didn't need or barely needed a tablet. if you need a tablet, you need the n7. it's my first tablet and I was always waiting for something better to come out until the n7 2013.

here's my checklist of what I need out of a tablet.

high resolution screen - check
lightweight, easily portable with 1 hand holding - check
load websites in a rapid or timely fashion - check
play all forms of video at the highest resolution without a hiccup - check
play the best games of the time at between 30-60fps or more - check

and the n7 offers quite a bit more functionality than that. I honestly, will probably be happy with this device for about 5 years. I can't really see much changing in that amount of time that would make the device any less useful than it is today. example, websites really won't be any more demanding. video resolutions won't really be any higher. the only thing that will probably increase is the demand of hardware by games, which since I prefer PC for 'real' gaming anyways, won't really diminish the usefulness of the device. with a controller the n7 is more of a serious gaming device, but it's still no replacement for the performance of a desktop PC with a $200+ GPU....a console generally doesn't hold up to even a mid range PC either. So for the N7, it's really a device that should adequately serve people well into the future, although people will still buy newer faster tech as it comes out because they've got to have the best of the best.

basically, in computing, you reach a point where you reach an evolution in a device power/specs to where it becomes all a person needs for quite some time. for example, the best desktop consumer GPU's today, are less than or barely 2-3x faster than the best or even mid range GPU's from 2009. paying say $200 or more for something, then having to pay $200-300 or more again for something offering barely 2x the performance, is quite an investment for such a small increase...especially if you're already still getting 60fps or above or whatever you consider adequate. when things happen in say, 100 milliseconds, 200 milliseconds (i.e. 2x the performance) doesn't make a huge enough difference in the grand scheme of things. it's only when frame rates start going below 30-60fps for the vast majority of people, that they see it as a good time to upgrade, and many GPU's from even as far back as 2009, are still more than capable of delivering 30-60fps or more in even today's most demanding games.

I like to have the capability of playing new flashy games on my tablet, but I still prefer desktop PC gaming, and if I owned a console, I would still prefer that over mobile device gaming anyways. so for me, the n7 will be an adequate internet and media consumption device well into the future.

they could next year deliver a device with 2x the resolution, 2-5x the computing speed, and so on for $200, and I still wouldn't really feel compelled at all to replace my n7. they would have to focus more on ruggedness in order to catch my eye. a tablet I can accidentally drop or carelessly set anywhere without having to worry about damaging it.

I've had my Nexus 7 (2013) for two weeks, and I am absolutely loving it. I barely use either my phone or laptop anymore. Well, the phone for tethering the Nexus.

I've had my N7/2013 a few weeks & am very happy with it. Wife has N7/2012 & while it's a nice
Pad..... The 2013 is a very worthwhile upgrade.
Just got OTA 4.3 a few days ago. The 1080p screen is awesome too.

I bought the '13 and it's a nice device to put it modestly. Unfortunately, one of my favorite apps doesn't work on it and I didn't see myself being happy without it. I had to take it back and get something else.

And what would that app be?

Nexus 7 (2013)

My input:

I picked up a Nexus 7 2013 this week (they only came out here) and it is my first Android device. I'd been using an iPad in the past three years. Overall, I'm very pleased with the device. It's very snappy, the display is nothing short of gorgeous, the sound is fantastic (but it's not hard to beat the mono speaker I had gotten used to!), and it's very light. The Android UI isn't all that different from iOS and easy to get used to. I bought a bunch of apps (to stream video, to access my ebooks library wirelessly, a good epub reader, etc.) and checked out various free ones (ebay, Skype, etc.), and I haven't bumped into issues.

The "downsides", if you can call them that, for me, are the 7" format that still feels a bit "short" (this is a "getting used to it" issue, I figure), the back isn't as nice as the aluminum one of the iPad, and it crashed on me when I got the initial system upgrade (but then worked fine). My device (display and otherwise) is flawless and I don't have any issues with dead pixels, discolorations, etc.). It's probably true for most people and you mostly hear from those who have problems.

If it's worth it to you probably depends on your needs and expectations. If it's your first tablet, it'll be a life changer. If it's not your first, it'll improve what you're used to. The price is very competitive for what you get and unless you have a relatively limited budget, it doesn't cost much money.

Love mine. It's my first tablet, and makes my 2011 vintage phone seem tiny and slow. The latest update bricked it and I needed to do a factory reset. Still love it though and once I got it up and running again all has been great.

I bought mine 2-3 days ago. I come from the Apple Ecosystem, bought a Nexus 4 this spring, and now wanted to switch my Ipad (which my wife basically stole from me anyways) to an Android Device.

The only hesitation I had was knowing if I wanted to stay with 10 inches or go for a 7 inches (with 16:10 screen ration, even smaller...). I am VERY pleased with the screen, speed (though I sometimes have weird freezes/artifacts, but I'm using Nova Launcher to have similar aspect as my phone, I suspect some bugs might come from this). Gaming is superb on it, no or very little touchscreen issues to complain about.

IF I end up returning the device within the next 10 days it will be purely based on size, as I find it slightly too small... but the recent update to Google Chrome allowing the address bar to auto-hide gives us some screen estate that would otherwise be lost, and might just be sufficient to keep me on board. The only other option for me would be to wait for the upcoming Nexus 10 update...

Basically, if you're in the market for a device this size, DO IT.

I've been a happy camper since mine arrived. And I was a skeptical long-term iPhone/iPad user. I haven't had any technical/hardware issues at all. I think it's a great device.

Best tablet on the market currently in the 7-8" form factor. I've had mine for a few weeks now and still love it.
