Is it worth it

The rumor is that the official 2.1 will be pushed out between now and the end of the month. I'm running the factory stock 1.5 patiently waiting for the OTA update.

My patience is almost at an end however and I think I'm going to the 2.1v2 leak if it doesn't happen. For those of you who have already gone the way of the 2.1v2 ROM has it been worth it? Are you still glad you did?

I've heard of the no signal bug and apps not updating through market...any major issues to be aware of?

Any advice or shared experience would be appreciated.

In my humble opinon, wait logic leads me to believe that our phones which were fairly low priced wont get the OTA before they discontinue sales, which is sometime in may or early june. Because they dont want people to spend less for the Eris over the new Htc Incredible or the LG Aloha or even the current Moto Droid which now has 2.1 . Its your final decision, but I love my phone granted its my first android phone but its the best i've ever had bar none!

if you are running 1.5 , why not root ?

I would say do it. I'm sick of the rumors with when 2.1 is gonna come out. I waited for a while, and it never came. I'm sure it will eventually, but as of right now, "this month" is just a rumor... just like it was a rumor when it was going to come out at the end of last year, and then january, then february... you get the point. It's up to you, but I'm glad I went to 2.1v2. v1 had some laggyness for me, but v2 is great. No issues so far.

Just wait... its not that big of a deal between 1.5 and 2.1 leaked versions (I tried them both and am on the second). It's buggy so wait, phone has randomly reboot 3 times in the last few months. But for the most part I love 2.1. Nav is freak'n awesome. But all in all... if I had the choice... i'd wait for the official buggless (or minimized) version. another few weeks wont kill you.

Its all one big crap chute. All you can do is read all the info on the leaks and the posts against the leaks and make the best decision for yourself.

I wouldn't wait. Verizon don't care what os your using. And 2.1 is twice as better in the performance department. the only major flaw in leaked os is the "phone bug"problem that has yet to be resolved. you won't regret it. you might not even consider upgrading after you install leak and will save couple of bucks. my 2$

I would wait. I had 2.1 on my Motorola and to be honest, I was not at all impressed considering the hype. Look at the Youtube video's of the Eris running 2.1. I saw them all and I won't waste the time of day for a leaked version. Simply not worth the effort or risk you your phone.

ferniesp your using the Moto so you would not get the problems with 1.5 and it way worth it to go to 2.1 on the eris, just make sure that where ever you download the 2.1 leak, is a reliable place

okay, 2.1 on moto Droid has been a failure. my girl has the Droid and did update and now her phone lags and has been having problems just answering her phone. 2.1 leak for Eris is quite the opposite. makes Eris very fast and kills almost all lag. There is NO risk running the leak. not sure whatcha talking about mate. when official comes out you will indeed be able to update to that. I for one don't care if official comes out cause Ive been running this sweet leak for a while and couldn't be happier with my Eris. my 2$

I have read all sorts of problems with audio on phone calls for people running both leaks. And since there is no way to go back to 1.5 if you install the leaks, I would say that there is some risk, if you are somebody who uses your phone to make a lot of phone calls.

I'd say that if the update is not delivered by the end of June, and there as been no announcement, then you may want to consider rooting to a 2.1 update as opposed to the leaks, if the no audio phone problem would impact you.

I wish I would have gone from 1.5 to 2.1 root but unfortunately I had just gotten my phone a few weeks before the leak and I was just learning about it. My first smartphone and I just didn't catch on fast enough to NOT install the leaks as they happened.

Now, I can't get rooted or even go back to 1.5. If I were you, I would root with whatever version you decide.
