I can upgrade my handset with my network now, and currently have a HTC M7....Best phone I've ever had! I would like to hear from users of both handsets if possible to give me an idea of whether it is worth me upgrading as if I do I will need to go from a £28/pm tariff to a £35/pm tariff .

In your opinion is it worth it for the LG G4? Bare in mind yeah I like my tech

Have you had an opportunity to try out the G4 yourself? It's a good phone, and I think you'll like it. However, it's best to give it a hands-on before making the jump especially since there are costs increases associated with it. Here's Android Centrals review of the G4, perhaps it'll help you make the right call: LG G4 review | Android Central

My wife had the M7 and the M8. She did love her M7, but the M8 was giving her problems at the end. No 4g reception, clunky WiFi reception. I talked her into the G4 and she loves it. She says her favorite aspect of the phone is the interface.

I just switched from the M7 to the G4. I have been an HTC fan for a long time. Like you, the M7 was no doubt my favorite phone til I got the G4. I am still learning the LG device since I am so used to the HTC. The only complaint I have with the G4 is my keyboard is not as sensitive as my M7 keyboard. But I do have an Otterbox Defender case which has a built-in screen protector on it. I think that may be why the keyboard is not to my liking. Everything else , I love.

Interesting to say you "like your tech" when you are sporting a relatively old phone with relatively "old tech".
If the M7 is doing everything for you that you need why switch?
I owned an M7 and like you liked it very much but larger screens, faster processors and infinitely better cameras, etc. continue to cause me to upgrade.
So is it worth it, can't say because what is important to me may not matter to you.

I had an M7 about um.....6 phones ago? Something like that, lol. It was a great phone, but the G4 kills it. The G4 is my favorite phone to date, and I've owned (in no particular order) iPhone 4, 4s, 5, 5s, 6, G2, G3, M7, OPPO Find 7a, Sony Z2, Samsung GS5.

Yea, I change phones a bit... Lol.

I came from an M7. I didn't care about the camera too much but the price difference and the promotions made me pick it over the M9. So far I love it. It takes a little to adjust from sense and the lack of ability to customize things is a little annoying but overall it is a much better phone. The only place I see a negative is that the reproduction of music through headphones and bluetooth decreases a little in quality. In my case, the G4 speakers are so much louder than my M7 were that it cancels out the quality difference. Battery life is way better, camera is better, faster speed. I think it is definitely worth the upgrade and, in my case, has showed me that my M7 wasn't as great as I though it was towards the end of its life (battery life was struggling, camera sucked, screen feels very small and ****ty now lol).

I had the M7 prior to getting the G4. The reason I upgraded was for the camera. The camera on my M7 degraded after the first 6 months and the photos in low light had a purple or red cast to them. Other than the camera, my M7 was still a great fast phone.

That said, I am loving my G4. It is even faster and damn sexy looking. The camera is everything I had hoped it would be. And even though I miss the front facing speakers of the M7, the speaker on my G4 is plenty loud.

I'm very happy with the G4 and would recommend it to anyone who wants a high end android with a great camera.

Thanks for all your replies. I think I'll more than likely end up going for it. I also like the look of the Nexus 5 (2015), but not enough to wait months for its release.

Not that it matters now but pretty much all early M7s had the purple haze issue. It was caused by a faulty camera sensor overheating. After putting up with it for several months I took it back to sprint and they swapped me with a refurb... No questions asked cause it was a known issue.

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you as I'm still rocking an M7. I'm an HTC fan, so I REALLY wanted to get an M9 when it dropped, but it just didn't wow me (or lots of folks, it seems) as the camera fell way short. Then the M7 got surprised with one last hurrah in the form of lollipop. So I've just been holding tight and enjoying not having a contract or phone payment.

And now here I am, lusting after the G4 and struggling to decide if it's worth it or if I should just hold off a few more months. But does anything significant ever drop in the in the fall? Maybe a new nexus device? But I refuse to get a 6" phablet. Never, I say! The G4 is about as large as I could push it.

And what will happen to my front speakers? This metal body? What about these ever so familiar and functional capacitive buttons? What of my familiarity and happiness with HTC's extremely clean and uniform implementation of Sense?

The struggle is real.

I had the m7 for 2 years, waited eagerly for the m9 only to be disappointed, not that it's not a good device but it's just not good enough.
Anyway I got the g4 2 weeks ago and it's certainly a worthy upgrade for me: the screen is amazing, camera is very good, performance is very decent. Things I'm missing form the m7 are build quality, sound and unlocked bootloader which I hope will arrive to this device at the end.

It is a tough choice. My M7 was still looking good after being used over 2 years with no cover and the build quality of the M7 is much better/durable than the G4. The M7 is on lollipop and still runs smooth. The size and feel in hand of the M7 was just about perfect for me. Plus, I am one of the few that loved the M7 camera.

The G4 camera does appear to have some capabilities that should destroy the M7, but I haven't gotten to the point where I know the camera well enough to make the difference significant yet.

In my opinion if you get the G4 you will need a case as the plastic edges dent and deform very easily. With a case the phone is even bigger so think about whether you are willing to have a significantly wider phone in hand. If so, I think you will be happy with the g4. Big benefits to me are the knock on/knock off, which I love, potentially the camera, quick charge/wireless charge capabilities (if you get the accessories), and sd card.

If you decide a larger phone isn't going to cut it, it may make sense to wait and see if a smaller phone comes out that competes with the g4. I made the upgrade, but really, there was no need to do so and really the most noticeable change is the size and the knock on/knock off.

I have the same questions but coming from M9.
The LG with black leather is really something! I was that close to take a Note 4 as I am tired of 5'' screens, nut the arrival of Note 6 and the laggy TW pushed toward the G4.
I am just afraid of the audio quality with earphones as I saw mixed reports about it, though none tried V4A.

The M7 is still a very competent phone being two years old. My mother has one and when I visit, I check out her phone (I used to have the phone back in 2013) and it's still a great handset. Still really fast UI, sleek hardware design, Sense has held up really well etc.

In saying that, I'd say the G4 is much better in certain aspects, namely the camera. Comparing the G4 camera to the M7 camera is like going from a point and shoot to a DSLR. While under certain conditions you can take pretty good shots on the M7, the G4 just trumps it in literally every respect. So if photos are important to you, yeah the G4 is hands down worth the upgrade.

It kind of depends on what you value in a phone. Both will do calls/text/social media without issues. Gaming the G4 would do better, photos the G4 is significantly better etc. Though I'd still edge the M7 in terms of physical design/comfortability and sound. The metal body, dual front speakers and Sense I still do like a lot. But if they don't matter to you, then the G4 has a superb camera, decent software and a really great screen (which is also a fair bit bigger if you're after a larger screen). Ironically I find the strengths of the two phones the polar opposite: HTC having (imo) the better design/build and UI, whereas the G4 having the much better camera and a better screen.

Your best bet would be to go into a store and have a play with the G4 and see what you think. If you like the size, screen and the performance, then yeah, no reason not to get it. It's a great overall phone.

I just switched from my M7 to the G4. I really liked the M7, but the camera had the well known purple tint.
Now that I'm familiar with the G4 it has become my favorite phone ever.

Just to let you all know I decided to go for it and upgrade to the G4. I am so glad I did it is an awesome phone! If you, like me were worried about going from the front facing speakers of the M7 to the rear of the G4, don't! The sound quality, and loudness of the G4 is better than the M7, and all in all its a far superior phone. Go for it! ☺
