Is Micro-USB a Problem or am I?

Bought a ten-foot micro-USB cable that didn?t work right. They took it back, but ever since, other cables didn?t feel like they went in right even though they worked. Then I borrowed a charger and its connection apparently bent the conductor pins in my phone port.

Now I have to drop the phone at Sprint on the way to work and live without it until they replace the port. I don?t expect the warranty to cover this, nor the protection plan if I had it. I?m just curious if this is a known design soft spot, or if there are funky cable ends out there...

I bought cheap micro USB cables from monoprice and they work fine. No issues with the port on my ph. Did you accidently push the cable in too hard?

No problems here either, sorry your having problems with yours.

No problems with micro usb connectors. I have had a mini usb port on an old cell phone that wore out and did not always charge. The micro usb is designed to have a longer lifetime than the mini usb.

The Sprint guy said although they can’t change the plug (a service center that doesn’t solder), they did me one better -- replace it for a new one tomorrow for just thirty-five bucks. He even loaned me their demo’s charged battery just to get me through the night.n

And that leads to these questions...

Sprint repair centers aren't allowed to solder. If they have the parts around, they'll generally replace the part, but anything hardwired to the mainboard is considered a total replacement.

Frankly, I think it's a total crap rule, but you have to realize that those repair techs make on average 25-32K/year, and have little to no real training. The established techs just teach them on the fly.

I tried digging out the soldering iron when I was still a tech for them, and my assistant manager got really nervous and insisted on supervising me. The damn woman hovered over me so close, she bumped my back and put the tip of the iron into the back of my hand. Idiot...

thats why i am a faithful sprint customre. thay have always done me right and i have never had a problem with their customer service or their service. also noone can match their pricing.
