Is my S9+ camera defective?

But when using other camera software, e.g. OpenCamera with the S9+, the results are much better. Especially things like hair detail.

However the fact remains that, right out of the box, the camera, to me, is singularly unimpressive.
How many people are going to, or going to want to, install a 3rd party app to take their photos.

I don’t use a S9 (or Plus) and I do use 3rd party apps, however I shoot the way probably no one else here does anyway (raw, using UniWB and working on TLC).

I'm impressed with the camera. I know some of you aren't, but I'm kinda loving it. Several pics from over the weekend. Gave my dog a break! 20180419_160120.jpg20180415_123953.jpg20180415_123913.jpg20180414_174640.jpg

Some of your pictures look good, but the picture with the bright green leaves is case in point with these cameras. Look how blown out the top right leaf is.
That's because they had a light shining right on it. I think it was to keep the little bugger warm. I couldn't move the light. Enclosed aquarium and all!

So until Samsung addresses the issues, I hope they do, what's everyone's go to 3rd party camera app?

I think daytime pics look good, but the focusing problem shows again with the darker picture of the toad on the branch. If you zoom at 100% it's clear that nothing on that picture is in focus, the toad is very soft/fuzzy and lacks detail...

I completely agree. If the picture had taken with the S8 or Pixel people would see a definite difference. It's hard to compare without examples side by side.

Slightly OT, but I couldn't help but notice that your cat's colors and markings are almost identical to those of my cat.

Also, keep in mind this was taken thru glass that wasn't crystal clear! Kiddy fingerprints on the outside and frog stuffs on the inside. A dslr would have trouble getting a perfect picture under those conditions!

Opinion: I think samsung may need to update the software, they may have focused a bit to much on pro mode(live focus, etc) with this phone instead of the of the auto selection. One thing about the iPhone is I don't have to do much tapping, refocusing etc. to get a nice photo(even my s8+ was easier, single cam tgough), seems with my s9 not so much.

I get good pictures with the s9 because I know what I'm doing 70% of th time. I'm just saying this because most people don't have much knowledge and just expect the phone, camera and all to "just work"

That's just my opinion though of course.

Has anyone tried exporting the camera APK from an S8/+ and installing it on their S9? be sure to back up your S9's camera APK first!

Took this yesterday. It's slightly blurred because my knucklehead dog won't sit still, so I had to wait until she looked at me and snap really quick, hence the reason why it's off center. Still think it turned out ok. 20180421_112657.jpg
