Is rooting and unlocking the same?

Is rooting and unlocking the same or are they different
No they are not, the differences are like apple and orange. Rooting a phone is trying to gain more control to the device. It gives you the root/administrator privilege so you can do more on the device; such as delete the system files, gain access to the system directories, install apps that require rooting such as titanium backup, install the recovery, flashing the custom ROM, turning on the developer options, and much more. Now unlocking the phone, basically you're trying to release the phone from the control of your mobile provider, hence the slang term "jail break". Once a phone is unlocked, you can use your phone with any mobile providers you want, as long as they support your phone.
