Is selling my mint Verizon Galaxy Note 2 on eBay a good or bad idea? It's still in original box with all accessories.

It was purchased in January. I only keep it as a spare(in addition to my main Verizon Galaxy Note 2)
So far, it has only been used for less than two days.

I have never sold or bought anything on eBay. Are there any risks involved? For example, can the buyer claim
that the phone is defective, has scratches, etc?

There is always the chance of problems but you being the seller is the better of the two. As long as your being completely honest in your listing, providing good close up pictures to show the condition of the device and following all of the seller rules you should be okay.

I've been a seller and buyer on both eBay and Amazon with no problems ever.

I have heard of complaints from some sellers, similar to what you are describing. From what I read, eBay sides more with the buyer. For example, if the buyer gets the phone in good condition, but fraudulently claims that it was damaged on receipt, them you pretty much have to take it back.

The only problem I've ever run into is someone not paying for the phone after they won the auction. That usually doesn't happen, though. Since your phone is in excellent condition you'll be able to flip it fast.

A couple of tips:

Only accept payments via PayPal. Avoid checks and money orders. Too easy to forge.

Don't accept any bids that require you to ship outside the United States.

Ebay allows you to set minimum standards for bidders. Set them.

When you ship, require a signature and include insurance.

Hope this helps.

Ebay really likes sellers to have been with them for awhile. You could sell on Craigslist. Have stipulation that they have to meet you at a corporate store. Cash and no meeting anywhere BUT a Verizon store. If buyer won't agree to that....no deal
