Is SG3 the perfect phone?

I suspect build quality will be similar to the SGSII. Most reviews I have read comment on the build quality (or lack thereof). I am not a big fan of a plasticy feeling phone, especially for one that is considered to be a flagship phone. As much as I dislike Apple, at least this is something they typically get right. Even HTC build qualit is much better than Samsung's IMO. If the Galaxy phones are ever going to be the 'ultimate phone,' I think Samsung needs to focus more on how the phone feels in he hand.

for me no i like pure android and would take a hit in the specs department any day to get pure android. also TW kills me and i honestly think sense 4 beats TW4. i personally think the one xl is a better phone

Pure aosp is boring as crap!

No, its not the perfect phone, and I don't expect we'll ever see one. This is both by intent, as well as the realities of the relentless march of technological progress. Not to mention the necessity of producing a common device that will appeal to the masses, as everyone's definition of perfect is different.

Then there's the issue of the time lag between the development of a new technology or component and how long it will be before phones actually hit the market with it. Thus, the features of any new phone will fall short of expectations, as we'll all hear about next-gen components that have no chance of being implemented in a device yet but expect them in upcoming superphones. And of course everyone's desires will always change as they get used to the best of current tech and hear about ever-advancing future tech.

My dream-phone based on currently announced tech and components would have a 720p SuperAMOLED+ flexible display protected with WillowGlass, an Exynos 5250, 2gb lpddr3ram, a Lytro light-field camera (after-shot infinite focus), a moderately flexible battery that can last all day, all wrapped in a Liquid Metal case with a TPU trim strip around the edges. The entire thing would be moderately flexible, not floppy, but think of a credit card where it'll bend and torque a bit with no ill effects. Seal it and nano-coat the ports to make it water resistant like the Razr, and give it some sort of a premium finish. And of course provide an unlockable bootloader (that can be encrypted if desired for the corporate world), as well as factory images on the manufacturer's website, both for the "customized" version as well as stock AOSP built for that hardware.

I honestly hoped some of those features would make their way into the SGS3, and they didn't, so no, it isn't perfect. I suspect that we'll see a phone with very similar specs to the one I described within a year's time or so, but by that time it won't be the perfect phone either, since we'll all know about even more powerful and revolutionary hardware.

So I think the SGS3 is a great phone, and is certainly the best one so far this year. One series kills me with its lack of an sd slot, and nothing else really stands up to it at this point. The only phone that we can expect soon that may match it is the Droid Razr HD, but I don't see it having anywhere near as much developer support. This is certainly the best phone from a sales volume standpoint, as it has a unified design, universal name, unified marketing, and availability to nearly everyone on the planet within a month or so of each other. This is the real kicker, as this beats even the iPhone.

So its the best phone yet, may be the best for quite some time, certainly will be no worse than tied. A marketing director's dream, but the perfect phone for everyone it is not, nor ever will be.

The only thing tw and sense have are built in Widgets and and widget they have are either built in to aosp or there's a widget you can get to replace it. In my eyes you don't really gain much from any OEM skin

dude! ROFL! thats a computer! not a phone, reminder: phone is to make calls and text, now for multi media use purposes but still what are you planning to do without phone? .... create a 3D movie on phone? crazy post but love it thu, kinda funny.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the lack of 3pin connector that the GNexus has.... that would be a welcomed addition; especially for accessories.

What is still missing? What do you want to see in the ideal SG4 perhaps?

How would you picture your ideal phone?

Your say please

In order to say yes, the SGS3 would have to be hands down the best phone on the planet. And since its on par with the One X/Evo 4g Lte then you can only say its one of the best out, but far from perfect.

What's missing are:
- Speakers are front of the phone
- Carbon-fiber body
- Biggger photo-sensor (megapixels aren't as important)
- Dedicated camera button
- At least 2500 mAh battery
- Full 1080p resolution screen
- Quad-core GPU (IMO GPU>CPU for gaming)
- Anti-fingerprint/scratch resistant screen
- More secure/tighter ports

These will work for starters.

Yep, I would agree. I would say the GS2 is one of the best Androids of all time and stood well above everything else during its prime. It was the phone that made people like me who got other new phones (Sensation) at the time it came out hate themselves, and hate that it wouldn't be coming to the U.S. for a considerable period.

The GS2 had plenty of competition, including G2X, Evo 3D/Sensation, Atrix 4G, etc. It just stomped all over the competition and had tremendous influence throughout all of 2011. The GS3 does not stomp all over the competition-the One X is its only competitor right now, and it's a way closer race than what the GS2 ran with 2011 competition. It just doesn't clearly outshine the One X. Best phone of 2012? Good luck with that. Later this year we will finally see completely new SoCs (new GPUs finally, rather than 2011-grade GPUs), as well as a host of other improvements. The GS3 will likely be considered one of the best phones this year as well as one of the most influential (yea-I won't deny that a ton of people are preordering it), but it still won't be what the GS2 was in 2011.

It doesnt even stomp the GS2. Thats how good of a phone the GS2 is.

To make it perfect would require (using announced tech):
5 in. 1080p screen SLCD2 IPS (much better screen IMHO)
Liquid metal case or same polycarb but matte finish
2gb ram is good but can't argue against more
64 gb min internal
quad core exynos w/ T-604 Mali GPU
As close to 3000 mah as possible (removable)
mirco SD capable
Ability to turn off TW without root

My 2 cents

The battery is too puny for me. I can drain my Droid RAZR MAXX in a single day if I stream music or watch a lot of videos. But other than that, I don't have to worry about battery life anymore. I am not willing to downgrade my battery life to get any new phone.

The MAXX has a lower-res (than the 720p on the SGS3) AMOLED screen, and the display is the number one killer of battery on any phone, so I would imagine the SGS3 will drain that gas tank faster than the MAXX, and it has a smaller full tank of gas with which to start. I doubt I could make it through a day on one charge. I may be wrong... but I'm not willing to chance it, now that I *finally* have adequate battery life.

The key question for me is not if it is perfect, but if it is enough for me to commit for 2 years and re-up my contract. So far, the jury is out. I have a pre-order, but I could cancel... and am on the fence about that.

S4 might be on its way in a year's time. will that affect your decision?

To make the S3 better I'd like a screen over 5 inches while keeping a similar size (basically less bezel), bigger battery without an increased depth, non-pentile screen, and no physical or capacitive buttons.

So there's a good chance that the Note 2 may be my perfect phone. So when that comes out, and if it's on Verizon, I will likely transfer over to that one.

Seems alot of talk about the phone but what are most people upgrading to this phone for? Unlimited data. Dont get me wrong i want this phone as it will be a nice update to my thunderbolt. but mostly getting it so i can keep unlimited data. without it i would be paying upwards of over $1000 a month just in data..

No. It has TW and a physical front button. :-$

TouchWiz looks different on the international version. Need I say even "tolerable"? Also, what kind of screen does the SG3 have? My only gripe with my Rezound is that I can't see squat in daylight. How does the SG3 compare in that arena?
