Is the 32GB worth the extra $40?

It's simple, if 16GB works for you you're good to go, especially if you use non local storage. If you think you need 32GB, then you most likely need MORE than 32GB. when it comes to storage space, video is the number one biggest usage of space. 32GB is still simply not enough for this, especially on a device with a 1080p+ screen.

the 32GB version only exists as a way for google to make more money. it costs them $5 to add the extra space, yet $40 more to buy it. with blue tooth, wireless, and remote storage options....the 32GB simply doesn't justify its cost for 99.9% of usage scenarios. the only reason someone should need a 32GB is if they're constantly traveling for days or weeks at a time without access to the internet....but even then, external storage is still a much better option. a 500GB wireless hard drive is tiny and can sit in a bag, purse, or backpack easily out of sight with no fuss....and you can get one for the same extra cost of the 32GB n7. it's a no brainer. 16GB for $40, vs 500GB for $40.

not to mention your battery life on the 16GB will be noticeably better because reading the larger volume of data on the 32GB will use more power than say transferring files over a self powered wireless drive. I'm willing to bet that's why you see some people complain about battery life, because they're downloading and then reading 8GB mkv's for hours on end, which means constant power drain from local storage streaming, along with the initial power drain from putting the files on it in the first place.

This post made me think of my wife and her iPhone. She thought she'd save some money by getting the 8GB model. Now she's always b*tch'n and moan'n because when she goes th shoot an unplanned video of our too-cute son her phones tells her she's outta space. ...and then I have to hand over my S4 that has 96GB of storage...and go dump stuff off her phone so she can use it. I don't know. I'd be hesitant to recommend a 16GB option when a 32GB option exists. ....but yes you can make limited internal storage work for you if you put some effort into it.

I think Jeremy8000 was spot on. My first was a 32. I exchanged it for a 16 since I knew the 16 matched me the best and the 32 had to go back since it was defective anyway. Second unit was also defective. Now on 3rd unit with the same defect. Needless to say I'm not keen on spending more than I have to on this now after 3 screwed up units in a row. I'm taking my 14 day return window now to decide whether to stay or jump aboard the iPad Mini 2 this Fall. It might be wiser for me to do that. The Nexus 5 will be out around then and if turns out to be messed up with publicized issues as well, that's going to make this the crunch year for me as far as staying android or not since I only use nexus devices.

Cost per gigabyte is much lower with 32gb version

$14 per gigabyte on 16gb version and $9 on 32gb version.

I think i will get the 16GB and see what happens... If i need more space then i will get a Wifi HDD/usb 3.0 the smallest one for portability. My Nexus 7 will be to read, gaming, emulators of course if i finish a game i will delete it if i don't play it anymore and i could have the emulators games on the HDD. I have a PS3 Slim 120gb with plus so i know how to manage i play one game at a time and when i finished it, bye bye.

How big are the games on android? 1-2GB i imagine...
Besides i have my smartphone and i will get the Nexus 5 when it comes out. I was thinking of getting a Nexus 4 but the 5 is coming out... So i will get the Nexus 7 now then Nexus 5. I don't plan to watch a lot of movies on the Nexus 7. Series and anime yes from time to time when i'm on a trip and i could take the Wifi HDD if i need more space.

16GB vs 32GB is a whole lot different than either of them vs 96GB, especially 8GB vs 96GB. the point is, if people think they need a 32GB nexus....then they most likely need more than 32GB, which is why the 16GB + remote or wireless storage is a better option, at no extra cost or the same price, with access to much more space. the different between 16GB and 32GB is about two 1080p bluray quality movies. so instead of holding 1, you're holding 3......that isn't a substantial difference, especially considering the alternatives I listed above.

even if you're traveling, I doubt you'd watch 3 1080p blurays before you had internet access again to download another or stream something else. even if you did have long periods where you are not expecting internet access, 3 1080p's probably aren't going to cut it. now when you get down into things like 720p (400-700mb range), you can hold about a dozen or more of your favorite tv shows or movies in that resolution, on a 16GB model, with room to spare. that's potentially 10-20 hours of video. now if you go lower than 720p, you can store even more than that on a 16GB model. the point is, that should definitely be enough content for even travel situations.

I don't know about you, but I don't get a 1080p+ screen just to watch low quality movies though. so when it comes to 1080p video, the 32GB doesn't really offer that much extra space in the long run, and there's going to be almost nothing else that eats as much space up as that. and if you've got 10GB of mp3's or flac's on a tablet.....god help you for being inefficient and having too much music.....and even if you did have that 10GB of music, it would mean you could only store 2 1080p's.

again, if someone thinks they need a 32GB, then they probably need more than 32GB. so it makes much more sense no matter what storage option you think you need, to get a 16GB with external/wireless/remote storage options.

Just to let you know about game sizes, the vast majority are small, but some of the HD ones can hit 2gb. Like Gameloft especially whom I am currently mad at because dh4 crashes a lot and caused me to lose my in game purchases. Grrrr

From this post is why i think i will go with the 16GB if i need more space i could get a Wifi HDD not a big deal... if i go to a trip i could take it with me just put in the bag...i don't plan to have 10+ games on the device what for. I will watch series and anime on it sometimes but those episodes are not as large like a 1080p. For me the difference is that i could get the 32GB and install a lot more games on it without deleting them and or put more episodes on it. Besides i don't have anymore a external HDD so i could get one.

game sizes really are a non issue for the most part for both 16 and 32. just don't install a bunch of games at once. one or two or even just three games should be enough to tide you over when you don't have internet access.....and when you do have internet access you just delete the games you're no longer playing to make room for the new. not really a big deal.

The 32gb nexus is totally worth every extra 4000 pennys I only had it for one week and 60% of my storage already occupied

It's fair to say that some people like to install over 100 apps, store music on tablets and load her right up full of videos. But there are also just as many who don't.
Post a link showing that the are as many people using the same or less data as are using more, please. Manufacturers are adding storage to computers and mobile devices every year, and while the cloud may be changing this, I've seen no evidence that usage rates are significantly changing.

For me, I feel much better knowing that I have 21gb available, rather than the 7gb I'd probably have available if I had bought the 16gb. I've had my N7 since July 27th. It's possible that I might never use up the 7gb, and that in 3 weeks I've loaded this thing up as much as I'm probably ever going to, but I kinda doubt it.

I was worried about space before I ordered mine. But ultimately decided to go with the 16GB. I have installed 25 or 30 apps including a couple games and still have nearly 10 GB left. I do not have any music or movies loaded and don't intend on doing so. I have an iPod and iPhone for music. I can stream music with my Nexus. My main use for the Nexus is reading, light gaming, web browsing and email. If I didn't have the other devices I probably would have gotten the 32GB.

I will use my Nexus 7 like you but i will play more games than you probably the thing is that i will not have more than 10+ games installed and i will delete the one i finish. I will watch series episodes on it but they don't take a lot of space like 1080p movies. If i need more space i will get a wifi HDD for the trips.

I will use mine like you but i will play more games, when i finish one i will delete it and i will watch series on it. I'm thinking of getting the 16GB because i have my Ipod for music and i will get the Nexus 5 later this year. If i need more space i will get a wifi HDD for the trips. This one seems to work fine but still looking.

OfficeMax is having a 20% brown bag sale this weekend (you can get the bag out of news papers) where everything that fits in the bag is 20% off. The NEW Nexus 7 qualifies for this deal (unlike the new 20% off coupon online).

I went to OfficeMax to get one but they were out of stock so I went to Bestbuy and they price matched (after a phone call to OfficeMax).

Hope this helps someone
