Is the 32GB worth the extra $40?

If budget is not an issue, there is no reason not to buy the 32gb model. You can never have too much storage space but you can have not enough. My 2 cents.

Yeah i could get the 32GB... My problem with the 16GB is 12GB available.... Mine will be for games, emulators of course when i finish a game i will delete it. Reading, browsing, maybe music, movies i don't know but some times i will watch my series and anime on it too. I have a PS3 with 120GB and Plus so i know how to manage. I'm waiting for Amazon to have the 32GB again while i make my decision, but i think i will get the 32GB.

I have had my 32GB for a week, have already used 4GB of space with apps, some offline content (blog articles, two magazines) and two GPS maps. I have only loaded about 10 books so far (my entire library is around 4 GB) and just a few albums and a couple short personal videos and one photo.

I have no plans to use the device to store or watch movies and I'm still very happy I went with more storage! By the time I have more books, music, magazines and photos on the device, I'll be glad I spent the money.

So with the 16GB it would be 8GB free only...

Getting the 32 GB I believe is the right way to go. It will help resale value also. As the grow the O/S, the footprint will grow and the applications that can run on the newer O/S will grow to. Games & hi quality apps are getting larger and larger.

It really depends on the user, someone who just does email and web browsing and maybe light reading may never need more space than 16GB, in which case, no reason to spend for more.

For myself, I know I'll end by loading a fair amount of content and be sorry if I went for less memory, since there is not much in the way of public wifi where I live.

My 32BG has 26.4GB usable storage. So I'm guessing the 16GB has 10-11GB usable storage... which is not enough storage for me. The first day I got my 32GB model, I loaded it up with 720p MKV files and had less than 1GB to spare when I was done. The extra storage capacity was clutch.

just like what was said earlier, a 32GB solution to storage, is no solution at all, because people need more storage than that. that's why getting a 16GB and having non-local storage (such as a home pc or wireless hard drive) is the only worthwhile solution. 32GB should be largely ignored. of course, people will convince themselves that the 32GB was worth it to keep from having to face buyers remorse.

I'm having a real hard time understanding this argument. If you want a lot of storage it is best to buy a device with less storage?? Most people do not want to lug around a second device just for storage. That's why we buy a compact light device. And no, I don't regret buying a 32GB model...

The only worthwhile solution? You apparently think everyone uses their tablets the same way you do, which they don't. I didn't use the full 16gb on my 1st gen N7. I went ahead with the 32gb 2nd gen, because it will be plenty of space for me without any external storage solutions, aside from things like Google Drive. There are plenty of people for whom 16gb is enough by itself. Others need the 32gb. Others still need more storage, like you do. That doesn't mean the solution that serves you best is the one that serves everyone best.

Since he stated he has so much content that he'll be using external storage no matter what then yes, getting the lower cost model makes perfect sense. For his usage.
Nowhere in his post did I get the impression he felt his needs implied everyone else's. I think that goes without saying, I don't understand why he needs to explicitly state he was referring to his own needs.
I get what he's saying. I have a 500gb movie collection so a 32 isn't going to make any difference to me either. And that talk earlier about increasing app sizes isn't noteworthy either. I haven't seen an appreciable difference since froyo. Maybe 1 extra gig in the sum of all my installed apps and games difference. The only thing I've ever seen impact mobile storage on an appreciable level are video files.

To make the decision on storage size with the expectation that you will only ever use the tablet for specific tasks that you can list off in advance of purchase is bold. Even if one has owned and used tablets in the past and has a 'portfolio' of apps they're used to using, new applications have been, and continue to be designed and developed that offer solutions either previously unavailable on or insufficiently functional to manage from a tablet. Hence, if one is looking to keep the tablet for, say, 2 years or more (skipping over at least the next model release), it is prudent to anticipate you might want a machine that has sufficient storage to accommodate them. Also, if one plans to sell the old model, the low-storage model will likely be substantially less desirable on the second-hand market (how much would you expect to get for an 8GB Nexus 7 (2012) now vs the 16GB?).

That being said, if a buyer today is the sort who will likely upgrade to the new model when it (presumably) comes availablle in '14, and doesn't have current need for 32GB, the 16GB model is a smart investment as the $40 savings is a considerable 'discount' against the purchase price next year.

It's not bold if your past 2 years of experience has proven that your particular usage has met your storage needs with a particular size. I haven't had to change mine from 16gb devices and things have changed considerably since froyo

Mine has changed from 4GB to 16GB to, now, 32GB in order to accomodate all of the applications, games and files I store on my device.

In light of being on my 3rd device, several tech news sources reporting multi-touch screen issues, GPS problems, and random reboots, huge threads on Google support about them, my answer to the OP is no. I'm not confident in this device's longevity after the 1 year warranty expires, nor do I feel comfortable spending more than the bare minimum on a device that I could end up having to mail in for warranty claims. If there was an actual brick and mortar 'Google Store' that i could walk into and get handed a replacement on the spot under warranty I might, but there isn't.

I am in agreement with the 32G crowd. I am a huge movie buff and keep my tablet full of movies.

My wife is disabled and has 2 Dr. appointments a week so I spend a lot of time in the parking lot watching movies.

I keep my Nexus stored in the car and only take it in the house when I need to change the movies.

I've always recommended to my friends to get the most storage that can afford, because it will be there when you discover you need it. I got the 32GB model because even with Google music all access I want some albums pinned for when I can't stream. Gotta have my Doors!

That said if you really will be streaming most everything then the storage might be optional, but be honest with yourself about how you will use it.
