Is the 6P still a good investment now that the Pixel phones are out?

I own a Nexus 5 and it's been great but, even though it's still a great phone, this year has been left behind with the updates and such. The 6P prices are dropping, so I'm thinking I should get one sooner or later. Is it worth it and is there much of a difference between it and the Pixel phones?

I would say that there is pretty significant difference between the 6P and the Pixel phones. Assistant, RAM, the new 821, and size mean better performance.

That said, even though the 6P has only a year of official upgrade support left, I think it's a worthwhile interment, especially at current prices. I have one and would likely buy it again.

As said, the difference is significant, but a 32gb N6P new goes for $449 at BB versus $749 for the equivalent Pixel XL. The Pixel is not 66% better than the N6P. Performance wise, there is not a great difference. The enhanced nougat software and the other perks (24/7 support, unlimited Google Photo storage) are the bigger differences.

N6P also has a bigger screen and dual front facing speakers which many consider an upgrade over the Pixel.

I have seen refurbished drop well below$300 on sale... Wait for that if you get a 6p,imo

I do not believe any phone is a good "investment" per say, but I think for the quality and features you get, the 6P is a excellent purchase choice now if someone were looking for a phone

Thank you all for your replies, it really helps to get down to the most important points. I agree, a phone is never a good investment, but take that expression with a grain of salt. I think that this year I might have to skip on a new phone, but if the opportunity comes up in a few months, the 6P would be a great option. Prices are going to drop substantially from 2017 onwards, and it is likely to have all the features on the Pixel phones by then. Let's see what will happen

I still to this day cannot recommend a phone with the Snapdragon 810. The overheating issues were really frustrating for me. When the phone is used while cool or from a cold start, it feels so fast. Then it gets warm and becomes a choppy mess. I used it for work and had to use GPS and listen to music/podcasts, then when I got to a location I needed to take photos. I had to wait for the phone to cool down for 10 or so minutes first or the camera app would crash or take photos/process photos so slowly. Also, sometimes while it was hot the GPS would simply stop following me. I don't wish that experience on anyone. I am ready for the 821!

I'd recommend strongly considering the OnePlus 3. It is one of the best values, the main problems being the uncertainty of updates and the camera could probably be better. But I can't completely judge either as I don't have first hand experience. I'm leaning toward the OP3 at this point in time as I just can't justify the Pixel XL price when I got my 5X for $250 and it is such a great device. My main issue being the low memory with app switching, if this issue isn't resolved with a OP3 I'd have to return it.

I had the 6P for a few days and had to return it. It was slightly too tall and heavy for me and the bluetooth couldn't handle being connected to multiple devices. When trying to have my MS Band and car connected it would disconnect one or the other device, and even worse when I tried using it simultaneously with OBDII reader it would have more issues.

These value percentages are silly. A Cadillac CTS-V isn't 200% better than a V6 Ford Mustang. That doesn't mean the CTS-V isn't a way better car.

Then look at it this way. $300 price difference. Is the Pixel XL worth that much over the N6P? It's an individual decision.

If what you concern is the performance, probably you won't see much difference in between two of them, however if price factor is the main concern for you, then probably you better off with the 6P. Software wise, it safe to say that Nexus phone won't be the priority of Google anymore, any news OS update will be reach to Pixel device first and then Nexus, even the update come together on the same date, Nexus phone won't get the latest feature or proprietary feature which only exist in Pixel phone.

I saw this and thought... Less than $1 a day for the first year, for something I spend many hours a day using...

Also I have a toddler so camera speed is essential for me.

I think I'm going to go with the pixel.
