I need to decide between the g3 and the alpha. Overheating with the g3 would be a deal breaker if its really as bad as some people say. I also heard that performance on the g3 has been a bit slow recently. The only real complaint I've heard about the alpha is poor battery life and slow to focus camera. Anytig else? Should I buy either phone or does someone think I should go for more? They cost about $300 where I live. I cant really pay more than that S5s and Note 4s about 50-70 more here just so you know.
Is the Alpha a good buy?

In the philippines. Motorola just started back up here. They started selling the moto g 2nd edition about 3 months ago. Nothing newer yet
Go for the alpha. No regrets coming from note 2 to note 3 to alpha. Battery life on mine is actually better than my note 3.

In my opinion the Samsung Galaxy Alpha (SM-G850A) is not as good as it could be. I think AT&T is to blame for that. This phone cannot be rooted and it's my first phone without root, that is the equivalent to a smoker without cigarettes. This phone seems to be sluggish and nothing can be done about it. I like the phone for its hardware and that is just about it. Last night I did disable Google one time lint and the phone seems to be a little better.
Yeah, even though I own Alpha, it's not the best buy you can do. I would avoid it as Samsung isn't showing much interest for the phone anymore so I expect poor support as well.

The size of the alpha is great. But the screen is a lower resolution and it's very obvious. Reading text hurt my eyes. Battery life is not great. On the other hand the G3 has a great screen and a great camera. Also, battery life is a lot better. I never had problems with overheating when I had the G3

The Galaxy Alpha is a beautiful phone and it has the potential to be a lot better. All the international versions seem to be working as they should with out problems and they can be rooted. I don't think this phone had issues until AT&T infected it with their BS. Then there is the stupid American FCC that suppresses all the technology that is available to us. As far as Samsung discontinuing it, I think Samsung realized their mistake making a midrange phone amongst all their flagship phones.

This makes a lot of sense, but no offense to them, but their lower end phones are basically, poor specs. I'll have to see if I can find this magical unicorn of a phone that is unlocked and actually works on T-Mobile/AT&T. At the same time, hearing that rooting is basically required, I don't think I'm interested. That would be a lot to take on as my first Android phone lol. I read so much negative about TouchWiz and having to root to make it work out, eh.

Any other Samsung phone I have works just fine. I think Samsung realized this phone was a mistake. Samsung figured they should discontinue this phone before it does anymore damage to their reputation. This phone is just fine if you need a secondary/backup phone or it would make a nice business phone.

I just traded my BlackBerry Classic for an alpha. Had never heard of it so I had to Google it. I have never been on these forums as well. Mostly over on CB and imore. Hopefully I'll stay with this phone long enough this time.
