Is the camera any better?

I've watched a couple of videos and from what I can see the s20+ seems to be not as good as iPhone 11 and the pixel 4

This alone maybe enough for me to say no thank you this year.

I'll await more comparisons, but do far in not sure the camera is any better than my s10+

Anybody what think so?

Yeah, probably gonna have to wait for legit reviews/comparisons/camera test to pop up. I don't know when folks will receive review units, but I suspect reviews will pop up closer to launch of the retail units.

Unless Samsung has done some amazing tweaking with their software I am not sure that even the S20 will be better than the Pixel phones. Although it does have the ultrawide camera. Still the S10 series also has the ultrawide camera so unless the software processing has improved a lot I am not sure the cameras are much of an upgrade. Can't wait to see the reviews.

Thank you. I should've pointed out that Samsung's processing is garbage.

I'm glad you started this post this is the deciding factor for me, I have an S10 plus so I am curious to see how much better this ultra camera is, if it's only a little better won't be worth it for me but if it's head shoulders better than anything out there then yes for me

we will know for sure when the units start shipping the only thing is it may be too late to preorder by then

Camera would be the Only reason I might be interested in getting S20....and it has to be at least same as Pixel 4 or better. I find it ridiculous that Note 10 camera cant even match the quality of Pixel 2 and 3

The simple fact that they increased the sensor size along with adding an optical zoom means a hell of an improvement before we even get to the software processing stage.

Having had both the Pixel 3XL and S10+ side by side I have to disagree with comparing Samsung's processing to garbage. The night shot mode is better on the Pixel and it also does better with moving objects in automode.
The easy solution is to go into manual mode and bump up the shutter speed which is something the Pixel lacks. I understand most people don't want to play with camera settings and that's unfortunate but people who call themselves photographers have gotten lazy these days. We will have to wait and see how the new Samsung handles automode but Google needs to take a close look at what Apple and Samsung are doing because they are starting to fall behind. You can only lean on computational photography a point and Google should take note before someone eats their lunch.

One man's trash, another man's treasure. I thought my old S8 actually took better pictures.

I can't comment on a comparison to the S8. I can only comment on what I use of have used from personal experience and what I've seen from blind photo tests. The S10 and Note 10 are certainly not slouchs.

I don't know how much better the camera will be but Samsung needs to work on the processing algorithm or something. I wish they would also stop all of the skin softening.

Doesn't work when u need a quick picture of your kids. I always take my Pixel and 1 second later I have a perfect shot. There is also something very wrong with the way Samsung does indoor color processing and faces. Pretty much every single picture I take of my son in bathtub, the tub is white, his body is white to the point it almost blends in with tub, his face is not only white but also blurry, and instead of hair its like a blurry hairball. And this is with plenty of light and he is not even moving. I take Pixel.....1 second later shot comes out perfect....
The face and hair problem can be seen almost in every shot indoors with my lighting.

I thought I can deal with all this, but at this point its becoming extremely annoying that pictures are only good outdoors. And I dont even use it in low light, I am sure Pixel is years ahead in that department too

I've noticed the S10 shines in natural light in auto mode. Fluorescent/artificial light, not so much. Especially where fur/hair is involved

Yes....so I have high hopes for s20, not sure I want to wait and buy Pixel 5 (Google is being ridiculous with specs, only they can reduce battery size going from P3 to P4). Maybe trade Note 10 for S20 and later trade Pixel 4 for Note 20.

If you have a current Samsung doing that you probably have the beauty mode filter on.

Maybe. I was actually thinking about waiting and seeing what reviews say about the S20 and holding out for the Note 20, or whatever it's called. Never owned a Note. But I've never owned a Pixel either. Anyway, might wait until the fall to upgrade, if not spring 2021.

I was referring to another poster. When I have that issue with my dog its movement.
I know who you were responding to. It's a public forum. And, I still see it in photos of my cats sleeping, and not moving. Over-processed. Too much smoothing. Samsung is known for this. And, I don't want to use manual mode.

I must be one of the few that thinks Samsung has a better camera than Google.

On paper the S20 camera is greatly improved, without reviews it's hard to tell how much better it actually is. At the very least we know it has significantly better zoom compared to the S10/Note10.
