Is the Droid 2 better than the Droid X or regular Droid

I used to own the regular Droid. It was an okay phone but had its quirks so, I upgraded to the DROID X. However, now I need an international phone. The other solution is to get a GSM rental phone from Verizon but, I would rather take my own phone abroad.

One downside to the Droid X is the shorter battery life than the regular Droid. However I do like the widgets and layout that comes with the DROID X. Would you suggest that I upgrade to the Droid 2 or would I feel as though I am taking 2 steps backwards.

i look at the droid 2 as a hybrid of sorts between the OG droid (in build quality and design) and the X (in UI and speed). you mentioned that you like the layout and widgets on the X, and the droid 2 has that same blur interface. plus, mentioning your need for a world phone, there is your decision right there. as long as youre cool with the OG droid size screen, you should be fine with the D2

I agree with the previous post;you should be cool with the droid 2. My husband has the X while I have the 2. I honestly prefer the 2, mainly for the size. While the X does a few things the 2 doesn't it's mostly media related, there's are no functions, apps or Widgets available for the X the 2 doesn't have. (That I know of)

Im assuming since you want an international phone you want the D2 global? And going from the X to the D2g would not be an downgrade at all, the only thing the X has over the D2 is a better camera, at this point the D2g and the X have the same processor with the D2g being overclocked to 1.2 as opposed to 1ghz. I would put the X and D2g on the same level if not the D2g being slightly better.

I don't know if it is better than the X. The X has a better camera, HDMI out, capable of recording in HD, larger screen, and better battery life. I think there is an argument fir the X being better. But it still comes down to personal preference.

I agree with your assessment that it really comes down to personal opinion/choice. But in retrospect I feel the need to point out a few things. Yes the X appears better in some regards on the spec sheets due to the camera and video res plus HDMI out. However, there are pluses to the D2 that really aren't something generally listed under "spec sheet" qualities. For one, the X isn't uniform. To me it's an issue that the camera area at the top end is thicker and heavier. My Boss got the X and till I messed around with his I was set on the X. I didn't like the heavier top feel and the uneven resting on a desk. Then there was the fact that on a belt holster the X is just too darn big for me. It's truly like a brick on your belt. The biggest I'm comfortable with is the iPhone's size.

Then I also don't need the HDMI out nor the extended resolutions since I don't really record much with my phone and I have a PS3 that reads media cards and that I play all my videos on. I copy all my vids and pics to a flash drive anyway - this part here is of course a preference thing.

Back to the specs, the keyboard on the D2 is always just looked at as a keyboard - something that many say they are too lazy to slide out and use. Myself however, I like the fact that I can type while still having 100% the full screen real estate. Again, not something that is touted as a feature but I find extremely valuable. Another non-listed plus is the directional keys on the physical keyboard. Not only can you use them for such things as games on the phone, but for me more importantly I can easily jump up earlier in a paragraph and add or correct things, something I don't see available in the virtual keyboard unless I'm missing something.

I also like the fact that all main screen buttons are touch sensitive - this again is a personal preference.

Not trying to defend the D2 over the X, not by any means. For someone that wants the extended camera/video experience or a larger screen the choice is obvious. I'm just trying to point out the reasons (ie. benefits) as to why one would choose a D2 over an X. While some features on the spec sheet show stronger on the X I think it's a bit unbalanced to those not familiar as to the benefits of the D2, being broken down more than just "It has a physical keyboard".

8 megapixels over 5 megapixels is only better if you plan on printing the pictures.

The D2 does not have the HDMI output which I can't for the life of me figure out why that would be useful. My Omnia had a TV out which I never even considered using.
Yes the DX has a larger screen, but I would love to know how much screen you can see while editing a word document on the X using the on-screen keyboard.
With the D2, if I use the physical keyboard, the entire screen is available for view the documents.

I think which one is better is based on what the individual customer needs or is most comfortable with.

You can always use DLNA to get content off of the D2 and onto a larger screen. I also like having a physical keyboard that doesn't eat into my screen real estate that, despite Swype, is easier for me to use with my big beefy fingers.

I owned the Droid X before my D2. The screen was awesome, but there were too many bugs when it was upgraded to 2.2. With Froyo already Loaded on the D2, everything just worked better IMO. Plus with LauncherPro Plus and HTC Clock widget with Fancy Widget, I feel I have an amazing phone!

I agree with your statements. Those were the reasons that I bought the Droid 2 in the first place. But I was interested in other features that the Droid 2 didn't have. But I think that this thread is a credit to Verizon's Android lineup. They have something for everyone. And trust me, I went back and forth with the Droid 2 vs. Droid X argument in my head. And I still don't believe one is ultimately better than the other.
