Is the epic really worth it?

Look midway down the page at the close-up shot of the Calendar icon. See the green strip on the right sides of the "l" and the the "d"? See the checkerboard pattern, especially along the left side of the "l"?

Is true there is fuzziness on text rendition on an AMOLED screen, do to the PenTile arrangement used to define pixels; this becomes more readily apparent when zooming in.

However, at the zoom settings I normally use for reading (and I do read a lot on my phone), is not something I find troubling.

I have a pre and really want a new phone. With all the problems this phone has do you really think its worth it?

etc
I just dont wanna regret getting this phone.

I have a pre as well and I can say for me it was worth it to switch. I have not had any problems with uploads but I dont upload gigs worth of data from my phone. Time without signal is going to vary depending on sprints coverage in your area so expect about the same as your getting now. I have had no problems with gps in fact I would say its 1000% better than the pre's. Wifi has worked perfect for me always auto connects like it should with downloads up to 10mbs and uploads around 2mbs.
As far as the battery goes its a lot better than the pre. No it wont last days without recharging but unless you go crazy it should get you through a day no problem. I am not one that agrees with the masses that the battery sucks. If you think about all that the phone is doing all day long even when not being used you realize the battery is pretty good. I have never seen a laptop make it more than a few hours on a charge and my epic can do almost everything a laptop can do and it last all day.

Bottom line. The best part is your a sprint customer so you can try it for 30 day. If you dont like it take it back. But coming from a pre I think you will love it. Good luck

Im having mixed emotions about my new Epic.....I just wish Palm would put out a new device as solid as an HTC phone....Id toss the Epic in the river....all in all, I wanted the Epic to be more than it was...I feel like I downgraded from my Pre.

Unfortunately, yes. But you get super good colors to go along with it, so it's a tradeoff.

I had to power up my Pre a few days ago in order to transfer a few things off of it and

WOW

I do NOT miss the small screen, and those who are saying that there are things that are clearer on the Pre screen are seeing something completely different than me because the Epic simply blows the Pre screen out the water... there is a huge difference...

Hell yea its worth it...

I have had the mogul, touch, touch pro, touch pro 2, hero, pre, moment, and EVO....

And the Epic is the ONLY device that made me stop browsing forums to look for tweaks and fixes to things... it just works. I don't need a custom rom because its just too fast as it is, games work perfectly, gps works great (for me), after super AMOLED there is no going back to washed out lcd's, camera is awesome, etc. Etc. Etc.

Its one of those devices where you don't have to worry about being fustrated when using it (lag, freeze, stall, reboot) none of that... I was gonna go to the apple ecosystem because I wanted to stop obsessing about fixing my phone and just enjoy it because it just works, but I'm so glad I found that feeling and satisfaction with the Epic 4G

Go for it IMHO

If one's visual acuity is limited it's possible one might not be affected by this issue. But for those that aren't far-sighted, it's an objective, physiological fact that one's eyes will constantly try to refocus while one's reading the text on the screen, due to the "fuzzy" edges. This is the case even when one zooms in so the text is relatively large; the brain tells the eyes that there should be a sharp edge around each letter, so the eyes try to find that edge.

Well my Epic 4g has been great, I'm coming from an iPhone 3g. I've no wireless (3g/4g/wifi) issues nor have I had a single GPS issue.

I post on forums, and uh the 150kbps upload is more than enough for me in regards to text. Pictures/video, I just hookup via USB and stick it on the computer. I don't use the video chat... So personally it doesn't bother me.

Work absolutely great (G network, no N networks to test it on. If you're using a B network then /wrists)

And regarding the few comments about font/text on the Super AMOLED screens, please read the above mentioned article very.. very carefully. Throughout they talk only about the AMOLED, not the SAMOLED. Read all the comments on that very article you sent, I skimmed through it and found quite a few already saying the same thing I'm about to say.

SAMOLED>SLCD>AMOLED>LCD

Not to belittle SLCD, it's a great technology and in fact the new Samsung galaxy tablet uses SLCD. And if you pick up a SLCD device, look at text, and put it down pick up a Galaxy S and look at text, you will only notice a deeper black.

Eye strain? I just read The Hunger Games, a 370 page book which on this little thing is probably ~900 pages @ size 12 font lol, and I'm fine. I did read it over the weekend and at one point I read for about 4 hours straight. Why did I read a book on a 4" screen? I don't own a tablet and my laptop is old and weighs 15lbs (literally). And having just dropped $150 on the phone (traded in iphone) and an undisclosed amount on my desktop recently, I'm cheap. No nook for me!

In the end, we're all human and perceive everything differently, so YMMV. Test drive it for 30 days.
