Is the Galaxy Gear supposed to cut off texts and e-mails?

Hi - got a Galaxy gear and using with a Galaxy S4. Works great but I noticed longer e-mails and text messages get cut off when I'm looking under notifications. Is this supposed to happen? I'm using Handcent as my text app and the stock samsung e-mail app for now.
