I maxxed out the display resolution on mine and love it. I set it to auto brightness and I'm not seeing a huge hit on battery life.
Yes using wqhd or “quadHD” will have a negative impact on battery life. The Note 8 is more like 2K, it’s better than HD (when enabled) but not quite 4K. However the camera can film in 4K.
will the higher definition wqhd kill my battery sooner than the hd+?

You can change the font size, if so inclined,in the display settingsI have asked this question before, but I'm on FHD myself. I tried switching to the WQHD and the fonts became slightly smaller and I didn't like that. So I lefted it at FHD.
