Is the Note 8 going to be too big?

Yea, while people on here drain their savings accounts and paychecks for the new phone or have to do payment plans.
Some people do payment plans/leases because we don't want to be stuck with a phone to sell in 6 months. Some people like doing that. I don't. I'd rather spend my money on other things and just keep a somewhat constant lease payment.

I can afford one too, cash isn't an issue, but after plopping down over $3,000 on devices over the last 16 months I need to slow down. Probably more like closer to $3,500 if you include all the cases for them.

I'll probably wait until Best Buy or Samsung.com runs a good deal on the unlocked model or Samsung.com has the tmobile version on sale. Many of us who pre ordered got burned big time for not waiting 2 months on the sales. With this phone probably costing close to 1k I'm going to wait for a sale. Trade in my S7 Edge towards it or sell it and have the s8 plus as backup.

I mentioned this also because a lot of people use the monthly payment plans and complain about how it will cost them more and they might not buy it if they can't upgrade and get the cheaper price or pay full price.

Hell, even Donald Trump doesn't buy new phones much. As of last Oct he was using the S3!
If you can afford it and new phones are your thing, why wait for a sale?
What spend so much on cases when you won't hold onto your phone for more than 6 months?
Not bustin your hump or anything. Just wondering.

I'm all about deals. Who wouldn't want to spend less? I won't complain as long as the price is fair. I don't think it's fair to lease a phone and have a huge down payment though, especially when you can upgrade often. If it comes to that, I may go to another Jump program and just upgrade once a year to the next Note.

You're right... at 67, I've basically relegated myself to "wine only" when it comes to alcohol these days, but even that's tasty!

Wine is everything though! I'm not mad at this. I was wishing I had some last night. I settled for water because I was not moving off my couch to go to anyone's store.

That's why I like pants with big pockets on the sides like cargo pants/shorts. I won't put phone in front or back pocket. I think my limit of phone size will be the size of the note 8.

Boom. You’re welcome.

I'm still using the galaxy S7, (impatiently) skipped the galaxy s8+ for the Note 8. Anxious to get my grubby little fingers on it. Definitely not too big, my phone feels small compared to some of the new ones out

Just like the first thing Adam said to Eve "stand back Eve, no telling how big this thing is gonna get". The trend in flagship is big, bigger, biggest. Even Apple conceded this. I think the note 9 will be bigger then the Note 8!

Hurry up September!!!!!

I love the bigger phones. Had all the Notes, the Nexus 6, LG v20, etc. Note 8 is very intriguing and I can't wait to really try it out at Best Buy when it's on display

Same. I love big phones. Especially when they come with big, high res, amoled screens :D.

I think there was an article a month or two ago basically stating that the screen sizes for the 2018 flagships are staying the same. That means 4K screens will most likely be the upgrade next year, not size.

You are totally right. It's quite uncomfortable for us ladies having to use these big phones. I have small hands and my N4 size is the limit for me. It's a struggle as it is. Remember that most of our clothing comes with tiny pockets or none at all and not all of us like to carry big purses. I can't even use my N4 single handedly ??????

Is your Note 4 still working? Mine just recently failed with the mmc_read: failed message :( I bought two of them (AT&T) unlocked from Amazon to replace my failed one, but it turns out that Amazon, as a direct seller of the Note 4, was refurbished. In fact, the White N4 I ordered, Samsung stated, it's wasn't manufactured as white, it was originally Charcoal black (called Samsung about an issue with the camera, it gave: "Not for image quality testing. OK for functionality testing." and found this out.) I bought two, because after I found out the first new one was refurbished, I returned it and got the Charcoal black one from Amazon directly, and that one was also refurbished being sold as new. Anyways, I love the N4 and had no choice but to get a new phone, but I did join the two class action lawsuits against Samsung on this issue. I checked out the S8+ and Note 8, and didn't like the tallness of it. I figure I'd skip the Note 8 / 9 with purchasing the old S7 at a discount....but it's is a downgrade in every way compared to my N4, esp. the camera and the feel / size of it. I laughed at TMO when they tried to charge a $20 "upgrade" fee. I screamed, what upgrade, you better not charge for that, you better give me a downgrade credit.

Anyways, good luck with your N4. My advice, don't encrypt the phone, I think that puts more stress on the emmc chip. Also, my emmc failure seemed to be triggered once I put the phone in battery saving mode (which I never did for 2.6 years I've owned it.)

Sorry to hear about your N4.I had one, and it was a great phone, with the perfect size. Unfortunately, I believe that Samsung doesn't care what their customers think. When "big" is in, they go big.

Thanks. I'll give the S7 two things, very good low light and significantly better auto focus on the camera (and no limitation like 5 minutes on 4K video that the N4 has.) HOWEVER, the N4 was naturally detailed. I took some photos of bar codes/eye exam board, etc...and every shot from the N4, you could easily read the text / bar code lines, and going down to the pixel peep level, the N4 looks more natural in the details. The S7 photos look very good on the phone, but once you open the image on a PC, you begin to see cringe worthy differences, this is with standard/"pro" modes on the S7. Most of the text/barcodes were illegible / smudged / washed out or over sharpened.

Anyways, what I miss the most of the N4 that the N8 misses is the size of the phone/display. The display and size of the screen is perfect, super easy to read and enjoyable for all day use, heck, I even used it to RDP in to servers and run some scripts. PLUS, I can't tell you how many times I dropped the N4 on concrete/ashphalt. The Otterbox Defender did its job (the case cracked in a few places, but the phone is in mint condition, but still protects it) and I believe that my S7, and I think the N8 has a glass back too, probably wont last after a few falls. Why did they listen to people complaining about the plastic and being able to remove the battery? Who buys a 700+ phone and walks around with it bare? Who cares about a glass back / "premium" materials. I care about what is inside, the display//camera/phone quality/etc...and that it should last until I decide it's time to move on. Maybe as a company phone, as most companies don't pay for a case, but more often than not today, post solidly built blackberry heyday days (oh boy, had one blackberry, with the side rotary push button wheel, that fell down a flight of steel stair case and survived, only the sides that were plastic were a little dinged, but could be buffed out), companies don't give out phones any more, unless you're an exec, they rely on you buying your own and using that.

Anyways....after my issue with the N4, and it seems like the N2 had this too when I was searching around for the emmc error, I'm not willing to spend that amount of money on a phone without a 4 year warranty at that price, even if the Note 8 was the same as the N4, while re-upping the MP back to at least 16 but with the better low light/auto focus, USB 3 and removable battery (went through 3 of them on my N4, since I heavily used the phone esp. for 4K video,) IR, and why not finally add in a FM/AM radio! Yes, I have unlimited TMO data, but why not just grab my local radio waves and put that to use? Also, I wonder if it's possible to have a OTA tuner to grab OTA TV channels and watch that on your phone too, without streaming data over cell/wifi?

I completely agree with you. I don't know why Samsung went to this direction, let alone, took away the battery and IR. I hope HTC, SONY and Motorola stay in the game. We really need competition. It can't be who's got the better Iphone clone every year with an Andriod OS.

RIP Note 4 910T, you served me well and I'm sure most of all other N4 owners feel the same way.

I read somewhere that the Galaxy S9 & S9+ will be the same size as their current models. I just hope that they make a Note 9 & a Note 9 junior. Maybe Note 10 or 11 will go back to a smaller form.:p

Thanks for sharing, I hope they do too. I just wish HTC/Sony/Motorola were more competitive. Heck, Samsung uses Sony's sensors, but they had the fiasco that they just now fixed with distortion on their Experia XZ Premium. How can you release a phone to prod with such a big issue? I mean, on paper, the camera sounds awesome, but comparing photos, even Samsung does better with less. https://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xper...era-has-serious-distortion-issue/td-p/1232765

Side note: I called Samsung again and finally got them to agree to service my phone out of warranty. It's $70, they give UPS label to ship it, have to ship it with my battery and charger (I assume they check the charger to see if that's an issue contributing to failure) I hope they have a new motherboard that they can replace it with. It's a $70 base charge + whatever else they find. I'm fine with having two phones, I can always tether to the S7 from the N4. The only other issue, even if the N4 didn't have this issue, is that Samsung I believe stopped making batteries for it....so all you have are 3rd party dubious quality batteries.

True! I'm petite and have very small hands. Currently using N4 and hoping to upgrade to N8 but the size scares me! Would rather go for the Note Fan Edition if I could get hold of it.

I totally agree. I wanted the Note FE too, but Samsung decided to overpriced it. I have the S7edge , but I'm going to take a hard look at the LG V30.
