Is the Power Button SUPPOSED to rattle??

I have the sharper display frame but I'm more used to it now. I love the phone.

sharper display frame? the only change was speaker phone holes and buttons fitting better

My power button rattles noticeably even when typing a text or email... Considering trying to get a replacement.

No some of us got a sharpish top. I'm not an engineer but there's a sharpish lip around the top and bottom. But I got used to it quickly. A handful of others noticed it on theirs too. We didn't know it was a "defect" and it hasn't turned out to be anything which makes a difference to enjoyment or operation of the phone.

If it bugs you Google makes it as painless as possible. Incredible support. Only took about 5 minutes and they pay for everything, including shipping there and back. I'm really hoping my replacement is the updated model. Guess I will know Tuesday...

Oy vey!

Please understand that the power button (and volume buttons) almost certainly do not rattle. If anything rattles at all, it would be the ceramic button activators which fit loosely in cutouts in the plastic case and which, when pressed, activate the actual circuit board-mounted buttons.

I suggest you take 33 minutes to view this video for a full understanding of how your Nexus 5 is constructed. In particular, notice the three white buttons which are visible at 17:15 - 17:35 and the ceramic button activators which can be seen at 21:22 - 22:05.

This guy makes great teardown videos, by the way!

That's a great video. Thanks for sharing!

I took off my Slim Armor case today to check out these known problems. My volume button barely moves , power button is a bit loose and as i mentioned before, if i shake it, it has a slight rattle and that is right up next to my ear. I would not have even notice it if it werent for posters here mentioning it.

Picked up my GS3 and both volume and power buttons are looser on that by far than on my Nexus 5 and it never bothered me and the vibrate on that is much stronger and i never noticed a rattle.

My conclusion is my phone works great, no issues so im going to keep it and not fret these minor issues...which with the Slim Armor case on it arent issues at all.

I have a drattle too. Its the camera, not the power button. Its ok, almost all n7s have this.

okay... the question is more why NOT, not why. It's great that it doesn't bother you, but the point is there is no reason not to replace the phone unless you are unable to.

And take a chance i get another problem? I can, ive only had it since the day before Thanksgiving. I dont see why i should replace it just because i can if i dont see an issue. If anything maybe ill get one with a better battery? Mine lasts he whole day so i dont really need that. Like i said, i wouldnt have noticed it at all if i didnt read it in here. I dont know, maybe i will just to go thru the process.

I kicked this around and actually decided to call but i guess i dont know which number to call because i couldnt get to somebody to talk to. I dialed 650-253-0000
What other number is there? That was the headquarters numbers a search brought up. Seen another number mentioned and the comments are they couldnt get thru. What number did you call?

I have a launch unit that has a slight power button rattle. Does not concern me. Frankly I would rather not exchange it and risk getting a unit with serious problems. Love my n5. Still prefer the moto x , but love the n5.

My thinking as well. My batch number is 311K. Second batch that is doing well though it has the smaller holes and the slight looseness of the power button. I wouldnt consider mine even a rattle. I have to have it next to my ear to hear anything when i shake it.

Sorry for both the like and thanks, Tapatalk at its best. Just go to the Nexus help center. Then hit call, hit the appropriate selections and then input your phone number. They will call you.

When you say the new version you are referring to the serial number being above 311? I am thinking of requesting an exchange more so to upgrade to the 32gb model but I'd like to have a power button that doesn't rattle. My s/n is 039 and I bought it February 10th.
