1 giga hertz is exactly 1024. Conversion isn't 1 : 1.

Also, in addition to my previous post, I need to add that it further gets more complicated when we talk about data transmission:

Data transmission is measured such that 1000 mega = 1 giga, even though we're talking about bits. Hence why it's usually preferable to say gibi/mebi/etc when you mean 1024 mebi = 1 gibi
Nothing complicated about it. You are talking storage, we are talking processer speed. Not deci vs binary (that is why 80 gigs aren't actually 80 gigs) I recall something about this applying to processors as well I think. Oh well, if I had time I would wiki itnight all
