Is the Ultra a dual core or octi core phone?

Sure. Marketing folks love to spin stuff like this. You count the core that does nothing but voice control, and you have an 8 core phone. Is it entirely accurate? Yes and no. There ARE 8 cores in the phone. Several of them don't do anything except one SPECIFIC task. They don't help you play Riptide GP2 any better, but it's a core nonetheless.

The Ultra seems to have unique specs. Can it be claimed as being an 8 core phone?

It's a dual-core CPU phone (dual core Snapdragon S4 Pro running two Krait 300 cores). If you want to call it "8 core" (technically there are 8 "cores"), then a Tegra 4 is a 77 core system (quad-core CPU + companion core + 72 core GPU).

Correct, 8 cores across 4 processors

- Dual core CPU
- Quad core GPU
- Single core low energy processor for language processing
- Single core low energy processor for "contextual awareness" (monitoring sensors to know how the phone is being moved)

Time will tell how effective splitting the language & context stuff onto separate processors affects overall performance, but the idea is to do those things on low energy processors to prolong battery life while constantly monitoring motion & sound. Some folks are upset that it's being promoted as an 8-core system, because (as mentioned above) most other phone makers only promote the number of cores in their CPU, and don't count GPU or other processor cores. It's an 8-core system, not an 8-core processor. Other systems have more cores, but you can't just count cores to know phone A is better than phone B. That's what benchmarks & user reviews are for.

How do the benchmarks look against the S4? Are benchmarks trustable yet after the overclocking scandal?

The Ultra seems zippy. I have an S4 and I feel like the Ultra is just as fast. The only thing that seems slowish is the WiFi connectivity.

Benchmarks don't show you your own satisfaction with the device. I mean, I can go buy a cool sports car that, on paper can go 400MPH, but I don't drive anywhere I can go that fast......
