So, they list a Verizon variation on HTCs site and also the unlocked version, which also says it is Verizon compatible.. Is it one in the same?

Anyone on here planning on using this on Verizon?

I would assume they're the same except there is no Verizon bloat on the unlocked one. That can be a good thing in the sense of no stupid apps but bad due to no wifi calling.

I wanted to order the unlocked but I heard some things like WIFI calling might not work, so i ordered the Verizon version.

Over on xda , they are talking as if the unlocked and Verizon version are one in the same...so I'm confused at what to order..also wondering if I should wait until the phone gets in hand of someone using a Verizon sim..

All Verizon LTE phones are already SIM unlocked. That was an FCC requirement before they granted Verizon the LTE bands

I agree with previous posters: no bloatware for unlocked and some carrier-specific apps in the Verizon model.

Called HTC...even though the guy seemed to have no ides which version (that's a good question, he said) he came back with purchase the Verizon version...the unlocked version will only work on LTE...

This is really good to know!

Maybe someone else can give it a go (calling HTC).. Might get someone more knowledgeable or a different answer..

I had a chat with an HTC rep while on HTC.com. I asked if the unlocked version would work on Verizon. They said NO, you need to order the Verizon model. I asked if they were sure or speculating and the person said they were absolutely sure.

Wow. I'm stunned. Unlocked won't work?!

These are the LTE bands straight from HTC's U11 websiteHTC U11 Unlocked Band Support

What US networks does the HTC U11 Unlocked edition work on?
The hardware for the unlocked HTC U11 will work fully on the following US LTE networks:

AT&TCellularOneConsumer CellularCricketGCI (Alaska)Good2GoMetroPCSNET 10Real MobileSimple MobileStraight TalkTelcel AmericaT-MobileTracFoneVoce WirelessWalMart Family Mobile
Additional carriers may be supported.

To confirm, check with your carrier to ensure the bands listed below are supported.

Unlocked devices usually don't support services such as Voice over LTE (VoLTE), Wi-Fi Calling, Mobile Hotspot and LTE Carrier Aggregation. Does the HTC U11 Unlocked edition support those services?
Yes, unlike other mobile phone manufacturers, HTC is proud to offer the best user experience to our customers. We support Voice Services over LTE (VoLTE), Wi-Fi Calling, Mobile Hotspot and Carrier Aggregation. Our HTC U11 has been built from the ground up for the North America customers and wireless networks. Some services may require the feature to be supported by your mobile operator before it will function on the HTC U11.

I have spoken with three HTC reps and all were certain that the Unlocked U11 will work on VZW, but there is a catch: it ONLY works on the LTE bands (4G) and does not have radios for CDMA/EV-DO. If you check the web site, they list the frequencies covered: HTC U11 Unlocked | HTC United States

Today, I learned that the VZW version also LACKS VZW CDMA/EV-DO coverage. I live in a big city and there are many times on major streets where LTE drops and 3G pops up. Unless the U11 has such great LTE reception that such a thing will never happen, there will have to be more dropped calls. It is a huge disappointment for me, on my 3rd HTC phone and a big fan, but this seems to be a terrible technical failure. I suggested to the HTC chat rep that they should clearly disclose the lack of 2G/3G coverage and the rep said, "I have made the same suggestion."

And there are many areas of the country - probably a small percentage of the population - that have only 3G coverage around the house or office. They will have no service at all. How can such things happen?

I have fairly solid 4G, but there are times traveling between cities that it drops to 3G....I think HTC is withholding the fact that it's not going to work for all Verizon areas..when they say it works with Verizon that's only partially true

Does anyone know about the wifi calling?
I see about it was "built from the ground up" for the North American carriers

No sign of CDMA/EVDO bands on their spec sheet has me thinking it doesn't have support for that, and like some others have said: makes the phone useless in plenty of situations. If Verizon flipped all their CDMA to LTE right now, sure. but they've pushed that out to, what, 2019 now?

Looks like a great phone; definitely going to wait for people to chime in with a "it works with Verizon CDMA"/"it doesn't work with Verizon CDMA"
