Is there a fault with my Nexus 4?

I no longer get a status icon at the top of the screen when a new email arrives, I don't get a notification sound or vibrate either. My Nexus 4 is set up to check my work email account and has been working fine until the other day. The phone is checking my email account and downloading messages, but no icon at top or notification sound or vibrate. The phone is set to auto check the inbox, email notifications is checked as is the vibrate. Appreciate if anyone can help.

Starting simple...did you check all of the settings you're aware of? Where? How about a reboot? If there's anything I've learned from calling technology at work you should always reboot first. It fixes a lot of things caused by corrupt data etc. Of course I find that infuriating at work since I have a thousand systems running etc etc., but no biggie on a smartphone/tablet.
