Is there a trick to getting my Samsung Galaxy S8 connected to Android Auto in my 2017 Silverado?

I have tried multiple usb cables, reinstalling android auto, and have not been able to get the phone connected to the dash unit. I have tried my wife's Iphone and it connects fine but the S8 will not connect. Bluetooth works OK and I receive calls, etc. but cannot use the apps or anything with the android auto feature. I'm about to give up and pull my hair out! Thanks for any help!
