Is there a way to change the sync schedule for Gmail?

On my Verizon G4, in an effort to improve battery life, I've changed the sync schedule for my Comcast email to every hour. I can't seem to locate a place to change my Gmail sync schedule similarly. under Accounts, I've located a way to turn sync off and on for Gmail, but that's it. Am I missing something? Thanks

Gmail is either on or off, no intervals.

Make sure both accounts are set (on the web interfaces to them) as IMAP accounts. Then turn sync off. When an email arrives at the server, the server notifies your phone and the email app runs. So if you only get one email that day, the app will only run once that day (plus a second time for you to read and respond, if you do).
