Is there a way to stop google from syncing all my photos and everything as a backup into my google account?

I have constantly been struggling with trying to keep my email clear. I keep getting "storage almost full," notifications and it's really getting annoying. I don't even send that many emails. It's due to the fact google constantly backs up EVERYTHING in the background from my photos. I don't need my photos backed up, especially not at this expense.

Is there a way to turn this off?

Go to settings>account and back up>manage accounts tap each account and turn off or turn off Google photos by opening it and tapping your account in the upper right corner and tapping settings.

You can also see if there are certain directories on your phone that are backing up images to Google Photos that don't need to be backed up. Open Google Photos, then tap Collections at the bottom, and then On This Device. Now look through the various categories there. Is anything besides "Camera" set to backup? If you're not sure, tap any of them (like Screenshots) and see if the Backup toggle is turned on.

Certain apps automatically save photos to the phone, and if the directory used to save those images is set to automatically backup to the cloud, that can use up a fair amount of cloud storage. A good example is WhatsApp -- if you use WhatsApp a lot and there are many images in the various message threads, those get automatically downloaded to the WhatsApp Images directory, and if that directory is set to backup, they'll subsequently get added to your cloud.
