I rooted my fire but lets say I wanted to return it to its out the box state like a system restore that also unroots it like the iPad has a system restore.

"Restore to Factory Defaults" doesn't seem to be a complete restore. I rooted mine and found that it broke notifications in TextPlus, which were working before. Un-rooting didn't fix them, and Restore to Factory Defaults didn't either. I am waiting for a system software upgrade, which the Fire definitely needs anyway.

Darn it I guess a new firmware update will do it but looks like as if now there is no way to do a firmware restore.

I wrote up a How-To unbricking your Kindle Fire on xda forums. I assume your Kindle isn't bricked but it will restore it to "out of the box" state. Here's the link if you want to check it out: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1356257
